What was he doing here? Had Alexander sent him?
Nash had spotted Danielle too. He strode over, carefully balancing an elegant pink gift box in his arms. His tone was respectful. “Good morning, Miss Crawford.”
Niki peeked out from behind Danielle, her eyes wide with curiosity. “Mommy, who is he?”
Nash crouched down, offering Niki a gentle smile as he handed her the box. “Hello, Niki. I’m Mr. Langley.”
“This is a special present from Mr. Davidson, just for you. He wanted to wish you a wonderful first day of school.”
“Daddy?” Niki’s eyes sparkled as she looked up at Danielle, confusion clouding her face. “Mommy, did Daddy ask him to bring this? Why didn’t Daddy come himself?”
A pang twisted in Danielle’s chest. She took the box from Nash, her voice cool and even. “Thank you for coming all this way, Mr. Langley.”
“But this won’t be necessary in the future. I can take care of Niki’s things myself.”
Nash straightened, the warmth fading slightly from his expression, but he persisted. “Miss Crawford, Mr. Davidson knew today was Niki’s first day. He cleared his schedule and spent a long time picking out this gift.”
“He’s not well enough to come in person right now, so he asked me to make sure Niki got it.”
Danielle’s fingers tightened around the box, feeling its gentle warmth.
She knew exactly what Nash meant by “not well enough”—Alexander was still in the hospital, recovering from injuries. That accident... she couldn’t deny she was somehow involved.
And yet, now, she couldn’t even offer a simple word of concern.
“I understand.” Danielle’s voice was hoarse. “I’ll give the present to Niki. You can go.”
Nash nodded, gave Niki one last look, then turned and walked away.
As he disappeared into his car, Niki tugged at Danielle’s hand and whispered, “Mommy, is Daddy sick? When will he come see me?”
Inside was a set of custom stationery.
A fountain pen engraved with “Niki” and, in smaller letters, “Monica Davidson.”
A notebook with her favorite little rabbit on the cover. A tiny backpack charm—a small airplane, hand-carved from rosewood, polished smooth and warm.
At the bottom, a single card, bold handwriting across the front: “Niki, happy first day of school.”
Danielle traced her fingers over the words, a bittersweet ache blooming in her chest.
She knew Alexander had never been good at expressing himself. He hid his feelings in gestures and details.
And suddenly, she remembered—

I knew it! He’s in love with her but he thinks she loves his brother!...
Oh poor Bianca... regrets, regrets :)...
This is it! Revenge. Way to go Dani....
OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
I hope not a lot of important dialogues get cut out, especially between Danielle and Alexander. But I can't complain, really. Thank you again for the updates....
