Danielle stared at him, the air growing still. After a few seconds, she replied, her voice steady, “Alright.”
She held his gaze. “But you have to tell me why. What are you really thinking? When Rebecca told you to stay away from me, was it because I’m the one affecting your emotions?”
The questions were like tiny needles, pricking at Alexander’s conscience. He clenched his fists at his sides. “My thoughts are… not organized right now. It’s not a good time to answer your questions.”
He was a man who planned everything, who weighed every word and every decision. But now, battered by his depression and the endless family drama, he had no carefully considered answers for her. He had acted on impulse, rushing here to protect her, but he wasn't prepared for the emotional fallout.
He looked up, his voice low. “You don’t have to pay any attention to what Jake said. He was looking for me, not you. You never should have been dragged into this.”
Danielle shook her head, a hint of frustration in her voice. “I’ve already left Northridge City. He still found me. Anyone who wants to find me can, no matter where I go.” She knew Jake’s obsessive nature all too well.
She looked at Alexander again. “If you truly want to keep your distance, I’ll respect that. Your health is the most important thing, and I don’t want to be the cause of your condition getting worse.”
“I have to go,” he rasped, unable to meet her gaze as he stumbled toward the door.
Danielle saw him waver, her heart seizing with alarm. “You can’t go like this.”

OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
I hope not a lot of important dialogues get cut out, especially between Danielle and Alexander. But I can't complain, really. Thank you again for the updates....
