"By the way, where's Alexander? Didn't he come back with you?"
At the mention of Alexander, Danielle's expression dimmed. "He had something to take care of, so he left first," she said softly.
She hadn't seen or heard from Alexander since that day at the docks.
She knew he was probably still wrestling with his thoughts, but she hadn't reached out to him either.
She had made her feelings clear; the rest was up to him.
Vivian noticed her daughter's low spirits and didn't press the issue. She just sighed and got up to go to the kitchen. "You must be starving. I'll make your favorite sweet and sour ribs."
Sitting on the sofa, Danielle watched her mother's busy figure in the kitchen, a warmth spreading through her chest.
Just then, her phone rang. It was River Atwood.
She answered, and River's guilty voice came through the line. "Danielle, are you okay? I heard you were missing. I kept trying to call, but I couldn't get through."
"I'm fine. I'm back now," Danielle said softly.
River was silent for a moment, his voice even more remorseful when he spoke again. "I'm so sorry. Back in the forest, I don't know what happened… I just fell asleep. I failed to protect you."
"If I had been awake, you wouldn't have been taken."
Danielle knew it wasn't his fault. Nathan's men must have drugged him.
"It wasn't your fault," she reassured him. "They planned it all out. You don't need to blame yourself."
"But I still feel terrible," River insisted. "Where are you now? I'd like to apologize in person and see for myself that you're really okay."
Danielle thought for a moment. "I'm at home. You don't need to make a special trip. I'm honestly fine."

"I'm fine, just a little tired," Danielle said with a smile. "Thanks to your help, I might not have made it back otherwise."
Gian handed her a menu. "Let's not just talk about all that. See what you'd like to eat first."
"You need to get your strength back now that you're home."
Danielle took the menu, and just as she opened it, she heard a familiar voice from nearby. "Danielle?"
She looked up and was surprised to see River Atwood.
He was holding a briefcase, clearly having just come from work.
He seemed surprised to see her but then broke into a smile. "What a coincidence. Are you all having dinner here too?"

I knew it! He’s in love with her but he thinks she loves his brother!...
Oh poor Bianca... regrets, regrets :)...
This is it! Revenge. Way to go Dani....
OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
I hope not a lot of important dialogues get cut out, especially between Danielle and Alexander. But I can't complain, really. Thank you again for the updates....
