Trapped in the boss's embrace (by Katrina A) novel Chapter 133

Chapter 133 Fishy

"You better keep your word," he murmured, his warm breath barely grazing her skin.

Her heart raced wildly out of control.

Damian, noticing her startled expression, moved in closer, his imposing figure looming over her.

"No escaping," he murmured, his voice dark honey. "I'll watch you eat every bite."

Beatrice's head was spinning; she could barely catch his words.

Her heartbeat was the only thing she could hear, pounding like crazy.

Then, her gaze locked on his lips, and she swallowed, trying to wet her dry throat.

God, I want to taste them... Wait, no!

She tried to shake off these wild thoughts, but her cheeks flushed crimson under his heated gaze.

Then Damian's hand found hers, and he dipped his head closer until his warm breath teased her lips like a sweet torment.

"Mr. Crowley!" Beatrice snapped out of it and yanked her hand away.

Her eyes widened in shock, her mind racing a mile a minute.

Under his expectant stare, she stammered, "Um... thanks for setting such a great example! Everyone should do their bit to save food!"

Flustered, she gave his hand another squeeze and scurried over to the table to take a seat.

Damian was at a loss for words.

Beatrice dived into her food, and the air was so thick and awkward.

Oh hell... My leg cramped! I was out of breath!

And he nearly... What's with his kissing obsession? How dare he?

He swore he'd keep his distance! Typical guy—all promises, zero self-control!

Damian took his seat while Beatrice kept shoveling food into her mouth.

The atmosphere was quiet and oddly tense.

Suddenly, Damian sighed.

Beatrice stopped in her tracks, just lifting her fork enough to lock eyes with him. She felt like a deer in the headlights under his intense stare. "W-what's the deal? Am I not eating right or something?"

"No. Just disappointed in myself. Wait, you've never finished all the food on your plate?"

Beatrice remained silent.

Damian sat motionless, and then his lips curved into a wry smile.

"I keep promising myself I won't push you, yet here I am, insufferable. Seeing you exhausted and scared of me makes me realize I am a hypocrite."

Beatrice was caught off guard.

Is he self-aware?

He continued, "You must find me annoying."

"No way!" she blurted out.

It's not exactly annoying.

Damian raised an eyebrow, clearly not buying it.

Reluctantly, she set down her fork. "Mr. Crowley, you're one of the most incredible men I've ever met."

"Ms. Lawson, no need for flattery."

"I mean it! You're nothing like those arrogant jerks. You're better than ninety-nine percent of men without even trying."

But Damian still looked as glum as a rainy day.

He propped his elbows on the table, clasping one hand in the other, looking truly bothered. "But the girl I like doesn't feel the same way. Could you, Ms. Lawson, throw me a bone and give me some words of comfort?"

Beatrice's eyes popped wide open.

She was struck dumb for a few seconds before she picked up her fork again.

Comfort? Why does he always dig a big hole for me to fall into in his words every single day?

Damian let out a soft chuckle and decided to let it go.

He carefully poured her a glass of juice. "Take your time. We can box it up if you can't finish it all."

Beatrice just tuned him out and zeroed in on her meal.

As soon as she was done, she bolted upright. "Mr. Crowley, thanks for dinner! I'd better head to my room. Violet is probably lonely."

"I'm lonely too."

"Then... I'll send Killian over."

Damian couldn't help but let out a soft laugh at her response.

Standing, he offered, "Let me walk you back."

"No need," she jumped up. "Just right there. I'm not a kid, Mr. Crowley. Get some rest. Goodnight."

Before he could get a word in, she'd already slipped out the door.

Just as she was about to grab the handle, the doorbell pealed, ringing in her ears.
