The dinner came to an end.

Damian stepped out, looking remarkably composed, but there was an edge to him.

His eyes were sharp, his steps steadybut when he handed the room card to Beatrice and Killian and asked them to settle the bill, it was clear that he was already quite drunk.

Harper wasn’t as wasted tonight as she had been last night. She trotted over to his side, tugging at his arm. How about coming to my place? I’ve got the wine you love.

No.

Damian refused immediately, his tone firm.

As he walked, he tripped over a lump in the carpet in the corridor. Before Beatrice or Killian could rush to his side, Harper had already dashed forward with her arms stretched out, looking like she was about to catch him before he fell into her embrace

At the last second, Damian reached back with his arm.

He grabbed Beatrice by the wrist, pulling her behind him. The sudden force made her stumble, and she was almost thrown into Harper’s arms. They nearly kissed in the process.

Beatrice’s annoyance flared.

How ruthless Damian was!

Was she just a human shield for him?

Harper’s face was flushed with fury.

Damian would rather shove his secretary into her arms than let her hold him.

She stormed out of the restaurant in a huff.

Beatrice, on the other hand, wasn’t quite as composed.

Since she had only been in this job for a few days, she had no choice. but to swallow her irritation for the sake of keeping her position.

Once in the car, she realized her knees were a

aching.

She glanced down and saw bruises from where Damian had pulled her. The impact had hit his solid leg bones, and hers were so delicate that even the smallest bump left marks that would last for days.

Damian leaned against the seat, one hand pressed to his forehead, eyes closed, looking like he could fall asleep at any moment. His face was calm, almost serene despite the alcohol.

They arrived at the hotel.

Beatrice tried waking him up several times, but he was too far gone.

Killian and a waiter worked together to help Damian to his room, sweating as they maneuvered the 6.2foot giant.

Are your knees okay?Killian asked, noticing the bruises on Beatrice’s legs as he came out of the room. Want some ice for that?

Killian feared that if things kept going like this, Beatrice might just walk away.

After all, finding a secretary who could meet Damian’s high standards and handle everything wasn’t easy.

I’ll go back to my room and take care of it,Beatrice said, trying to brush it off.

Okay. I’ve got Mr. Crowley covered here.Killian nodded, then turned back to Damian.

Beatrice gave him a quick nod before walking away. Thanks.

Beatrice was almost at the door when something suddenly occurred to her, making her pause and turn around.

Tomorrow, you’ll be accompanying Mr. Crowley to the summit. I won’t be around in the morning. The factory is on Verdant Island, to the west, and it’s a bit of a drive. If we head out early, I should be back soon.

Killian nodded. Understood. Just call if you need anything.

Beatrice gave a quick nod, then opened the door and stepped out.

Back in her room, she took a quick shower and settled into the recliner to ice her sore knees.

The cold made her wince in pain.

She smiled despite herself.

It was a mix of frustration and amusement.

Then it hit her.

Despite this being a new job, this trip also served as a muchneeded break after her divorce. It felt refreshing, almost like taking a solo trip to Isaedia to enjoy some freedom and solitude.

She was so caught up in everything that she didn’t have time to dwell on Cloudia.

Still, a flicker of curiosity tugged at her.

What is happening there now?

Meanwhile, in Cloudia, Violet had arranged to meet Desmond at

Outside, the night was pitchblack. The rain had been pouring all day, and the temperature had dropped suddenly. Thick, dark clouds loomed overhead, casting the entire city in a gloomy shade of gray.

Desmond sat on the sofa, his legs crossed. He wore a dark grey suit, his hair neatly combed, and his beard cleanshaven. Despite his appearance, there was an air of sadness about him, an almost oppressive gloom.

He still looked like the same noble, commanding manbut there was something different in his demeanor.

It seemed like the man who had broken down in despair, who had wept just the day before, wasn’t the same person sitting here

now.

Wow, already done sulking? That was fast.Violet remarked sarcastically. But it’s better this way, Let’s move forward and finalize the divorce.

She slid the divorce agreement across the desk to him.

Desmond picked it up nonchalantly, as if it were just another piece of paper.

His eyes skimmed to the last page, where his signature was clearly visible.

It was dated the day he had returned from his business trip to

Slideland

a month ago. He remembered that day clearly. Beatrice had come into his office with a stack of documents, calm and composed as she handed them to him. He had signed them without a second thought, and she had smiled, watching him.

When Beatie gets back, you can head to the courthouse to get the divorce certificate,Violet said, her voice cold. And that’ll be the end of your marriage.

As Desmond remained silent, Violet continued, her voice razorsharp.

As for the compensation that Beatie and your mother agreed on

she said if you try to back out of it, she’ll fight you to the bitter end. Your little lover’s got plenty of evidence of your affair, and we both know you don’t want to go through another charity party humiliation.

His hands curled into fists, crumpling the divorce agreement until crenses ran deep through the pages.

When did she find out?he rasped. His voice sounded like he was choking on poison.

Violet scoffed. What now? Feeling guilty? Save it. Desmond. You don’t get to feel sorry. Where was your guilt when you were sleeping with Madeline? When you took her to Slideland? When you made that stupid heart gesture at sunrise with her?

She didn’t stop.
