day.

He’d been so angry that disgust was written all over his face when he looked at her. But when he spoke of Beatrice, his eyes. had filled with tenderness and regret. He was disgusted with himself for being with Madeline, so repulsed that he could barely stand it.

Suddenly, Madeline screamed, I’m going to kill you today and cut you into pieces!!!

From now on, I’ll live in your house, sleep with your man, and be blissfully happy every day while you’re nothing but ashes. Desmond and I will marry, have children, and live happily ever after! And you’ll be nothing but dust! I’m the winner!

She ranted incoherently, seeming to have lost her mind completely, looking like she wanted to tear Beatrice apart with her bare hands.

Beatrice gave a cold smile. Aren’t you afraid I’ll come back as a ghost to haunt you?

If you become a ghost,Madeline smirked, I’ll find a medium to trap your soul. I’ll make you watch Desmond and me have sex

every day. I want you to see everything that was yours being taken by me.

Beatrice scoffed, You’re truly twisted.

Madeline stared at Beatrice’s face. It was still beautiful and defiant despite being bloodied, swollen, and bruised.

And it struck her again.

From outside, a man’s cold voice warned, She’s stalling for time. If you’re going to act, do it now.

Only then did Madeline realize what was happening.

She stood up. Beatrice, are you stalling for time, hoping someone will rescue you?

Stop being delusional. No one is coming to save you tonight. No. one would know you’re here. By the time they find you, you’ll be dead. It’ll look like suicide. The suicide note’s already been prepared. Now I’ll send you to your death.

With that, Madeline stepped back, flicked her lighter, and watched the flame spring to life.

She savored the fear and despair on Beatrice’s face as she tossed the lighter into the air.

The moment Madeline lit the flame, Beatrice’s survival instinct helped her break through the lingering effects of the drug.

She struggled to her feet, trying desperately to escape. But she only managed to roll off the sofa onto the floor.

Seeing the lighter about to hit the floor, she closed her eyes in despair.

Madeline waited eagerly for the flames to engulf Beatrice, her expression wild with anticipation.

Suddenly, a pair of hands caught the falling lighter less than two inches from the floor.

The horrific scene Madeline had imagined never materialized.

The lighter that should have hit the floor made no sound. The gasoline didn’t ignite. Instead, a dark figure appeared out of nowhere.

Who are you?!

Madeline asked vigilantly, her expression shifting.

Realizing someone had come to Beatrice’s rescue and that her plan was failing, she lunged toward Beatrice, grabbed a knife from the coffe

table, and hurled it at the woman lying beside the couch.

Beatrice sensed two dark shadows rushing toward her simultaneously. But strangely, the pain she expected never

came.

The smell of blood in the air overpowered the gasoline fumes.

A moment later, Madeline’s scream pierced the air, followed by the sound of something heavy hitting the floor.

Beatrice couldn’t make sense of what was happening.

A tall, shadowy figure was halfcovering her. Her face pressed against the fabric of his shirt, and she caught a familiar scent.

Mr. Crowley?

Damian grimaced in pain. You can let go now.

Beatrice realized her fingers were clutching his clothes, her palms pressed against his abdominal muscles through the fabric.

She quickly released him. The darkness and her swollen face concealed her embarrassment.

Damian pushed himself up and untied her. He then pressed a hand to his wounded lower back as he went to restrain Madeline.

Shortly after, Desmond arrived with the police and Violet.

They were met with a shocking scene: gasoline splashed throughout the house, Beatrice lying injured on the couch, Damian bleeding from a stab wound, and Madeline howling in

rage.

Everyone stood stunned.

Meanwhile, Damian handed the lighter to the police and described what he’d witnessed upon arrival.

The lighter he’d caught with his bare hands now carried his fingerprints, potentially compromising its value as evidence, but the knife on the floor would suffice.

Once Ethan captured the man in black who had escaped, Madeline wouldn’t be able to deny her guilt.

Violet cursed angrily. Madeline, you actually tried to burn Beatie alive. You’re a psycho, a lunatic!

Desmond, it’s not what you think. I’m the victim here. I was set up.Madeline resumed her victim act.

Desmond surveyed the scene, his eyes lingering on Beatrice’s battered form. His heart felt like it was being torn apart. He stood frozen in place.

The sounds around him twisted into a poisonous snake devouring him whole.

The consequences of his infidelity now lay starkly before him.

Desmond remembered Beatrice’s words: You didn’t kill me, but I could be killed because of you. That’s no different from you. killing me yourself.

Chapter 71 Coming to Her Rescue Again It was clear now they could never go back.

The sky was black, and the world before his eyes faded to endless gray, devoid of light.

BeatriceDesmond tried to approach her, yet his legs felt rooted to the spot.

Beatrice looked at him, her eyes showing nothing.

They stared at each other for a long while. But in the end, neither spoke.

Grief had robbed them of words.
