Beatrice took out her phone and saved Ryan’s number.

Her smile was gentle, carrying a warmth that put people at ease. Her beauty was striking, yet the elegance in her demeanor made her seem approachable.

It was a dangerous illusion.

Only those who truly knew her understood the cool detachment beneath the surface.

Ryan searched for Beatrice on WhatsApp and blurted out, Ms. Lawson, your profile picture is just as beautiful as you are.He was dazzled, completely forgetting that Damian was still standing there.

Thank you.Beatrice accepted the compliment graciously.

Ryan wanted to keep the conversation going, but a voice as cold as ice cut through the air. Mr. Shea, you seem to have plenty of time on your hands.

Damian’s icy tone made Ryan freeze. Only an idiot would miss that warning. He snapped his phone shut.

Right. Back to work.

He turned and practically sprinted away.

Beatrice put her phone back in her pocket. Damian’s face was still grim. Camden’s antics had clearly put him in a foul mood. Poor Ryan had walked right into the storm.

Mr. Crowley, I’ll take my luggage upstairs first. Then, Beatrice grabbed both suitcases and headed toward the stairs.

Beatrice had barely taken a few steps when a crisp, woody scent mixed with something clean and fresh, like morning dew, brushed past her. At the same time, the weight in her hands suddenly disappeared.

She turned to see Damian. He had taken the suitcases.

Beatrice blinked in disbelief. Her boss carrying her bags? It was as surreal as watching him get behind the wheel of her car. Everything she knew about their professional relationship had just been turned on its head.

Damian seemed to read her thoughts and said casually, I told you, I won’t mistreat my employees?

He then carried the suitcases upstairs.

Beatrice stared at his back.

Really? Is carrying luggage considered mistreatment? Is Mr. Crowley this considerate to his female employees?

Though odd, she didn’t dwell on it and followed him upstairs.

The second floor had a master bedroom, two guest bedrooms, and a study.

The master bedroom, of course, belonged to Damian.

Beatrice chose one of the guest rooms, set her suitcase down, and went to the master bedroom to help unpack his clothes.

She had spent the past few days memorizing the Comprehensive Guide to the CEO’s Preferences that Killian had sent her. It covered everything from his favorite foods and drinks to the exact brands he wore.

For a moment, Beatrice couldn’t help but feel that Killian was basically Damian’s wife. Wasn’t this exactly what a wife would do?

Thinking back, she had once played that role just as diligently. No matter how exhausting work was, she’d still come home and cook for that bastard.

The fridge and pantry were always stocked with his favorite drinks. Every suit and shirt in his closet was carefully ironed and paired with the perfect tie so he could throw something on in the morning and look effortlessly charming. Only to charm his way right into another woman’s bed.

Love made fools of everyone.

It was easy to judge when you’d never felt that painor when you’d been burned so badly you’d forgotten what the warmth felt like.

But why did it have to hurt this much? Why couldn’t shelve just walked away when she had the chance? If only she bon stronger, colder. Better to have walls too high tham to let the wrong person climb them again.

Ms. Lawson, do you have something against my clothes?Damian said flatly.

Beatrice snapped out of her thoughts, realizing she had been so lost in them that she’d gripped his shirt too tightly, leaving creases in the fabric.

When did he even walk in? He has such sharp eyes.

Sorry, I’ll iron it later.Beatrice released the shirt and smoothed it out with her hand.

Penny for your thoughts?Damian asked, slipping off his suit jacket and passing it to her. His voice was light, but his eyes were watching her carefully.

It’s nothing.Beatrice took the jacket, draped the wrinkled shirt over her arm, and hung the jacket neatly in the closet. She clearly wasn’t in the mood to share.

Beatrice wasn’t the type to vent to others, not even Violet.

Realizing Damian was still standing there with no intention of leaving, she turned to him, trying to act natural. But for some reason, her brain and tongue weren’t in syne, and she blurted out, Mr. Crowley, is there anything else you’d like to take off?

Beatrice’s face turned pale. The air crackled with awkward

silence.

Oh my goodness! What have I just said?

Damian was only wearing a shirt and pants.

Beatrice wanted to bang her head against the wall. She had meant to ask if he had anything else to say, but her mind had jumped to the fact that he had just taken off his jacket, and the two thoughts had collided intothat.

Just as she was mortified, Damian spoke. He answered her question thoughtfully.I might catch a cold if I stripped down any further.

Then, after giving her a look she couldn’t quite decipher, he walked away.

Beatrice was at a loss for words.

What was that look supposed to mean? Was he thinking she had a dirty mind? Or worsewas he silently telling her Sorry, but I’m not the kind of boss who makes your fantasies come true?

Beatrice gripped the wardrobe door for support. She wanted to disappear.

She quickly hung up all the clothes from the suitcase, ironed

everything, and rushed out of the dressing room. She kept her gaze straight ahead as she fled from the master bedroom.

Letting one’s mind wander at work was really a bad idea.

Back in her room, Beatrice took a few minutes to recover. Once she felt composed again, she started unpacking her own suitcase.

An hour later, Ryan sent her a message: [Ms. Lawson, Mr. Steele is awake. He said it’s too late to do the tour today, so everything will be rescheduled for tomorrow. Also, he invited Mr. Crowley over for a wine tasting tonight.]

Beatrice sneered.

So that’s what Camden’s ten beauties were for.

She replied: [Got it. I’ll pass the message along.]

Getting up, Beatrice went to the master bedroom and knocked twice on the door. But there was no response.

Is he taking a nap? Possibly. But what if he isn’t? What if he is in the shower, getting changed, or videocalling with his boyfriend? This is delicate.

Since the tour had been postponed, there was no rush to deliver the message. She left.
