Chapter 89 A Potent Drug

"There's only fruit," Beatrice said apologetically.

Damian's frown softened, and he nodded thoughtfully. But instead of settling for what was available, he called for ingredients to be delivered.

Seriously? Beatrice fought back a groan. Who orders groceries at this hour? And now she'd be stuck cooking for him in the middle of the night!

By the time everything arrived and she'd finished cooking, it was already eleven. Yet there sat Damian, eating like he hadn't seen food in days.

For a moment, Beatrice fancied that her cooking skills, which she might have seriously underestimated, were perhaps even better than Gordon's and that she could become a Michelin-starred chef.

It was a quarter to midnight.

Beatrice was extremely sleepy.

She'd had a restless night the previous evening and only managed a brief nap in the afternoon. Now, her eyelids were drooping with fatigue. After going upstairs and spotting Damian making his way to the study, she didn't have the inclination to ask if he needed anything further. Instead, she returned to her room, took a shower, and then went to bed.

At around two o'clock in the morning, Beatrice was suddenly awakened by a growl.

In an instant, she got up, opened the door, and stepped out. Her boss's bedroom door was slightly ajar, with a soft glow filtering through, likely from the floor lamp.

She walked over and pushed the door open.

The scene inside dumbfounded her.

Damian stood there with a livid face. Chloe, clad in a white, hollow, see-through nightgown, had been tossed to the floor. She was weeping, her hair disheveled, and looking at a loss.

Beatrice soon came to her senses. She rushed to the bathroom to get a bath towel, draped it over Chloe, and then asked sternly, "How did you get in here?"

Chloe just sobbed and remained silent.

It was obvious that Camden must have given her the orders. He was one of the owners of the resort. With his prior arrangements, it wasn't difficult for her to enter this villa.

He was incredibly presumptuous.

Even in high society's shadowy deals, sending a woman to a man's bed required at least some mutual understanding, if not outright consent. Any resistance was usually just for show. But

Damian had made his disinterest crystal clear, yet Camden wouldn't back down. After failing to drug him, Camden's latest scheme was sending Chloe to his room in the dead of night.

What was he thinking? That Damian would lose control and give in to desire while half-conscious?

Camden had completely lost it.

"Kick her out."

Damian waved his hand in disgust, unwilling to spare Chloe so much as a glance.

Covering her face, she cried even louder.

Beatrice assisted Chloe to her feet and guided her out of the bedroom and downstairs. Irritated by Chloe's incessant wailing, she snapped, "Cut it out. Your acting won't work for me."

Chloe gazed at her pitifully, her eyes red and swollen with tears. "Beatrice, if I go back without completing the task, Mr. Steele will give me to those people."

"What do you want then?" Beatrice asked her deliberately.

Chloe clung to her arm as if she had found a savior. "I know you're as kind as Nora. You don't really want to sleep with those bosses. Help me this time. After becoming Mr. Crowley's lover, I'll speak up for you and do whatever you ask."

Beatrice couldn't believe what she was hearing. First, this girl thought she was some kind of escort, completely disrespecting her role as a professional secretary. And now she was plotting to seduce her boss, which would totally sabotage Beatrice's job. Again.

Suppressing her frustration, Beatrice asked suggestively, "Your offer is quite tempting, but how can I help you? Should I send you back in? He's not interested in you, and he'll just toss you out again."

"No, he won't. I saw him drink that bottle of water. Right now, the drug hasn't taken effect yet, but once it does, he definitely won't be able to resist me."

Chloe's innocent and lovely face betrayed a hint of shrewdness.

Beatrice's heart skipped a beat.

Her patience instantly ran out.

Before Chloe could speak again, Beatrice dragged her to the door and pushed her out. Her beautiful face was icy. "Tell Camden he just made an enemy of the Crowleys. And you?" Her eyes narrowed. "Watch your back."

Beatrice's attitude altered in the blink of an eye, and her expression was so terrifying that it sent a shiver down Chloe's spine.

Chloe tried to enter the villa again. "Beatrice, Beatrice, don't tell Mr. Crowley..."

"Get lost!"

Beatrice slammed the door shut.

Having no time to waste in further words with this young but already very wicked girl, she turned around and rushed upstairs to the bedroom.

The bedroom was bathed in soft light. Damian lounged on the black chaise at the foot of his bed, one hand pressed against his forehead, eyes closed. His dark robe pooled around him, the collar falling open to reveal his chest. The loosely tied belt threatened to come undone at any moment.

Beatrice, already breathless from running upstairs, felt her heart skip a beat at the sight of him. Her boss had never looked more irresistible.
