Twin Cupids at Work: Daddy, Come Home! novel Chapter 105

Julian had practically dragged Madeline to the hospital. After a bunch of tests and poking around, the doctor finally said her ankle sprain wasn’t too bad.

Inside the exam room, the doctor was taking care of her injury. Julian must have known Madeline didn’t want to see him, because the second she was settled, he was gone. When she finished, it was Miles waiting for her outside.

Miles greeted her with that polite smile of his. “Ms. Monroe, Mr. Grayson asked me to drive you home.”

“No, thank you. I can manage on my own.”

She started down the hall, limping a little, and Miles just followed her. “Ms. Monroe, it’s tough to get a cab at this hour. Please, let me drive you.”

“I really don’t need a ride.”

But Miles didn’t give up. He trailed right behind her, and by the time they made it downstairs, Madeline dug through her pockets and realized she hadn’t brought her phone. Or any money. She just stood there, feeling awkward.

Miles stepped up right away. “Ms. Monroe, please, let me help.”

That’s when a black SUV pulled up out of nowhere, stopping right in front of her.

The window rolled down, and Madeline saw a ridiculously good-looking guy behind the wheel. His eyes were cold and sharp, his mood practically radiating from his face. He didn’t sound friendly at all. “Get in.”

Madeline tilted her head, ready to ask what he was doing here. But the look on his face, which said he wanted to murder someone, made her swallow her words.

Forget it.

She just mumbled, “Okay,” and shuffled slowly toward the car.

He watched her, his expression growing even darker. That was it. He got out, walked over, scooped her up like she weighed nothing, opened the passenger door, and set her inside.

He slammed the door so hard Madeline flinched.

That was terrifying.

Miles just froze, completely rattled by the guy’s energy. The man glanced at him, and Miles suddenly felt like he was being stared down by the Grim Reaper.

Casey slid into the driver’s seat and pulled away.

Julian hadn’t really left at all. He was still outside, leaning against his own car and smoking one cigarette after another. Smoke curled around his face, hiding the tight frustration in his eyes.

He’d seen everything. Someone else had come to pick up Madeline. He was too far away to make out who the guy was, but there was no mistaking it was a man.
