Julian’s brows pulled together. That name rang a bell. He’d heard plenty of stories about this guy, someone whose mood could flip in a second. One minute he’d be laughing with you, but the next you’d be fighting for your life.
It was said he ran a huge assassin organization, but no one really knew how far his influence stretched. He was danger, plain and simple.
Julian had heard the rumors, but he’d never seen the man in person. He definitely never expected Madeline to get mixed up with someone like that.
“Are you sure?”
“Absolutely.” Josh nodded, his certainty unshakable. “Julian, anything related to Madeline is locked down tight because of him. It’s not that I don’t want to dig deeper, I can’t. Everywhere I turn, I hit a dead end.”
They were still in Country Y. Julian understood that made things complicated.
If they were back home, it would be a different story. No matter who tried to keep secrets, Julian could get answers in no time.
Julian stood up, his tall figure casting a shadow as he walked over to the window. His eyes, cold and deep, narrowed as he stared out.
Helene had been attacked by some mystery man on her way to Madeline’s place. And now, today, Madeline had been dragged out of the hospital by force.
That cocky guy… was he Madeline’s boyfriend?
Casey!
Julian’s grip tightened and, in a sudden burst of anger, the glass in his hand shattered. Pieces cut into his palm and blood mixed with the spilled liquor, trickling between his fingers.
So this was what’s going on.
Madeline really had guts. How could she getting involved with someone like that? Didn’t she know if she’d push him too far, she’ll end up dead?
“Julian.” Josh got up, frowning at Julian’s bleeding hand. “You want to keep that hand, right? I’ll call Brady.”
…
Brady showed up not long after, medical kit in tow. When he saw Julian’s face, he shot Josh a look full of annoyance.
Of course, Josh had dragged him into this mess.
Julian was seething and Josh had called him over just to suffer alongside him. What, were all the other doctors in the house on vacation?
Honestly, when Brady got the call, he thought Julian was having another episode. He’d been busy—literally in the middle of something with a beautiful lady, hadn’t even had time to pull his pants up, and rushed over just to find a hand injury.
