Twin Cupids at Work: Daddy, Come Home! novel Chapter 119

Everyone watched Madeline, holding their breath, waiting to see what she would do. Most women would have caved by now. But Madeline just let out a slow breath, her eyes shadowed with something no one could quite read. Before she could get a word out, Julian cut in. He already knew what she wanted to say. His face darkened as he ripped the cards in his hand, his cold laugh echoing in the silence. His features iced over.

“Madeline, would it really kill you to just give in for once?”

She was always like this. She’d been stubborn five years ago too. Back then, she’d rather stand out in the pouring rain all night than come home, admit her mistake, and apologize to Helene. He’d never understood her. Was saying sorry really that hard?

Everyone stared at Julian, stunned. Even though she hadn’t begged, he’d still let her win. What was going on between them? Who exactly was this girl to him?

Madeline was taken aback by his reaction too.

Julian stared at her for a moment, and then his gaze dropped to her lips. He remembered last night, the image of her and Casey kissing in the car flashing through his mind. Suddenly, he couldn’t stand the sight of her lips.

Madeline felt awkward under his intense stare. She looked away, stood up, and was about to speak. But something in Julian snapped. He jumped to his feet, grabbed her wrist in a grip that felt like iron, and without a word, bent down and lifted her onto his shoulder. The whole room stared in disbelief as he carried her out.

“Holy crap,” Brady blurted, his jaw practically on the floor.

Josh grinned, loving every second. “This just keeps getting better. I can’t wait to see what happens next.”

Brady snapped out of his shock, and the two of them hurried after Julian and Madeline, eager to watch the drama unfold.
