Julian’s curiosity was definitely piqued.

Just when Madeline thought she might finally catch a break, his voice cut through the air above her, cold and sharp. “You want to talk and expect me to listen? You just lost. You don’t need to drink, but you’ll have to pay another way.”

“What do you want?” she shot back.

His gaze was icy, focused right on her lips. “Kiss me.”

Julian had clearly had more than a few drinks tonight. There was a hint of whiskey in his breath, warm and just a little sweet. Madeline pushed him away, not bothering to hide her annoyance. “You’re drunk. You don’t even know what you’re saying.”

He just smirked. “Is that what you think? I feel just fine.”

Then, without warning, Julian leaned in. The space between them shrank with every slow step. His voice dropped to a whisper, brushing her ear. “Tell me, how did Casey kiss you?”

Madeline’s eyes shot open wide, but not for the reason he thought. It wasn’t the question that shocked her, but the fact he even knew about Casey. Last night, the car had been pitch dark and he was outside, barely visible through the rain. He could have seen a silhouette at best, but there was no way he’d recognize a face. And even if he could, how did he know Casey at all? Casey had always kept a low profile. Unless...

“I looked into you,” Julian said, as if reading her mind.

Her face drained of color. If he had found out about Casey, did that mean he also knew about Oliver? Fear prickled along her skin. No, if he knew about Oliver, he would have said something by now. The fact he hadn’t meant he hadn’t gotten that far.

Julian narrowed his eyes, watching her every move, every flicker of emotion. “You’re really that scared of what I might find? How many secrets are you hiding, Madeline?”

She forced herself to look right at him. “What could I possibly be hiding? And even if I was, aren’t you the kind of man who gets answers to everything?” There was a bite in her words.
