Twin Cupids at Work: Daddy, Come Home! novel Chapter 136

Everyone turned toward the sound. Casey’s eyes narrowed, sharp and dangerous. There she was, her hair still dripping, cheeks flushed with a strange, uneasy color. She wore a man’s oversized shirt with the sleeves rolled up to her forearms, soft skin peeking out. The pants she had on clearly didn’t belong to her, either. The whole look set off a storm of questions in everyone’s mind.

Julian marched straight to Madeline. He glanced at what she was wearing, then grabbed her arm, his eyes cold and hard. “Why did you come out here?”

Madeline pulled free from his grip. “This is between you and me. Don’t drag anyone else into it.”

If she stayed hidden, these two would have ended up fighting for real. Someone would have gotten hurt, maybe badly. Madeline didn’t look at Julian, just took two determined steps forward.

Julian’s voice cut through the air, icy and sharp. “If you try to go with him, I promise you, everyone you care about will suffer for it.”

Madeline gave a small, bitter smile. “I know.”

She walked to the edge of the yacht and met Casey’s eyes. His gaze was cold enough to freeze her in place.

“He… did he touch you?” Casey asked, voice tight.

Madeline glanced down at herself, then quickly shook her head. “No. I fell in the water earlier. My clothes got soaked, so I had to borrow his.”

Casey’s hands clenched into fists. Seeing her like this, standing next to Julian, made something dark and violent twist inside him. Accidentally fell in the water? Who would believe that?

“Come here,” he said.

The two yachts were so close she could have just stepped across. Madeline hesitated, glancing back at Julian, whose face was calm but whose eyes practically screamed danger. Then she turned to Casey, whose anger was clear in every line of his body.
