Twin Cupids at Work: Daddy, Come Home! novel Chapter 156

Miles hesitated for a moment. “Should Ms. Fortner stay in a guest room or…?” He caught himself and fell silent.

Julian gave him a cool look. “Guest room.”

Miles nodded right away. “Yes, sir.”

When Helene found out Julian wanted her to stay, she could barely contain her excitement.

“Really? Julian really said that?”

Miles nodded again. “Yes. He gave the order himself.”

Helene beamed.

So Julian wasn’t mad at her because of the whole Madeline thing after all.

Her lips curled into a satisfied smile. Of course. Madeline was nothing. She was the only one meant to be the lady of this house. Julian still cared about her. He wouldn’t push her away just because of Madeline.

“I understand,” she said, feeling pleased with herself.

Miles glanced at her, his expression unreadable, but there was the hint of a cold, knowing smile. She had no clue what was coming for her the next morning.

...

At sunrise, Oliver was already up.

Julian had promised him answers, and he wanted to see for himself what would happen to the people who hurt his brother.

Julian sat with Oliver on the sofa, while the whole staff lined up in front of them. Every servant had their head bowed, barely daring to breathe.

The living room felt thick with tension.

Helene came down the stairs, dressed to impress. As soon as she saw what was happening, her heart skipped a beat. The smile froze on her face. Her pulse started to race.

“Julian, what’s going on? Did something happen?”

Julian looked up, his eyes cold. “Sit.”

Helene’s gaze darted nervously over the servants as she carefully sat down on the sofa.

Julian’s eyes swept across the staff. “Let’s get started.”

A group of bodyguards stepped forward holding whips. Some of the more timid servants collapsed in fear, crying and begging, “Please, sir, I’m sorry! I won’t do it again! Please, have mercy!”

Julian didn’t even look at them.

The bodyguards grabbed the servants’ hands and brought the barbed whips down hard.

The room filled with screams.

Julian’s face didn’t change. He didn’t even glance at Helene.

Helene turned pale. The cries of pain made her whole body go cold.

After twenty lashes each, the servants’ hands were covered in blood.

Helene caught a glimpse and quickly covered her mouth, horrified.

One servant passed out from the pain, collapsing at her feet.
