Twin Cupids at Work: Daddy, Come Home! novel Chapter 170

“Just say it over the phone.”

“I don’t like talking on the phone.”

“Goodbye.” Madeline was about to hang up.

“Wait, just hold on,” Lucy blurted out. “I’m not calling to make things harder for you, and I’m not trying to force you into a divorce. Can you just come by? I’m stuck in a hospital bed, I can’t exactly do anything to you. I’ll wait here.”

She hung up.

Madeline stared at her phone for a moment, frowning. After a second, she told the driver to head to the hospital.

When Madeline stepped into Lucy’s hospital room, she noticed how empty the place felt. Lucy was alone, her forehead wrapped in layers of gauze. She pointed to a chair.

“Take a seat.”

Madeline pulled out the chair and sat. “Why are you here all alone? Isn’t Julian coming to see you?”

Lucy let out a sharp breath. Just hearing her son’s name made her bristle. “It’s because of your son. Now my own son wants nothing to do with me.”

It was obvious Lucy’s frustration wasn’t just aimed at Madeline anymore—Julian was on her list too.

“Oh? What happened?”

Lucy rubbed her forehead, looking tired. “He says I have to apologize to your son. If I don’t, he’ll let me rot in this hospital for the rest of my life. I never realized your son mattered more to him than I do.”

Madeline studied Lucy’s face. She didn’t seem like she was making it up. That was surprising.

Julian was really willing to cut off his own mother over Noah? Was Noah actually that important to him? Madeline hadn’t seen that coming.

Lucy didn’t want to dwell on her son any longer, so she changed the topic. “You saved me that day.”

Madeline answered, her voice cool. “I wouldn’t say that.”

“Come on, you did. I wasn’t unconscious, I saw you. The doctors told me later too. If you hadn’t helped, things would have been a lot worse.”
