Twin Cupids at Work: Daddy, Come Home! novel Chapter 205

Madeline felt her throat tighten as Julian fixed her with that sharp, almost cutting stare. She swallowed, trying to keep her cool. Maybe it was smarter not to push his buttons tonight.

“You thinking about finding yourself a boytoy?” Julian’s laugh was cold, but underneath he was clearly seething. He tried to sound casual, but his jaw was tight with irritation.

Seriously, what was it with her? She was always thinking about other guys. Well, wasn’t she impressive.

Oliver, always sharp, piped up from beside them. “Mommy, what’s a boytoy?” His eyes were wide with curiosity.

Madeline bit back a sigh. She probably shouldn’t have said that just to get a rise out of Julian. “It’s nothing, honey. Just a way to describe a guy who’s really cute.” She had no idea where that explanation came from, but it would have to do.

Not wanting to drag this out, she pulled out her needle kit and gave Julian a look. Time to lie down.

The treatment wrapped up soon, but Julian’s mood was still stormy. Madeline ignored it. She was here to handle his treatment, not his sulking. She packed her things and stood up.

Oliver looked up at her, his face full of disappointment. “Mommy, are you leaving already?”

She ruffled his hair, her heart aching a little. “Yeah, it’s late. I need to head home. I’ll come see you again soon, okay?”

It hurt, having to leave like this. He was her son, but she couldn’t even be with him every day.

Oliver hesitated, his lips pressed together. “Mommy, it’s not safe at night. Daddy, can you give Mommy a ride home?”

“No,” Madeline answered quickly, maybe too quickly. The last thing she wanted was to be alone with Julian. What if he insisted on coming inside?

Noticing her own overreaction, she tried to smooth things over with a smile. “I drove here myself, so I’m good.”

Julian caught the look on her face and his eyes grew even colder.

Madeline couldn’t stand the tension, so she grabbed her things and made for the door. She must have looked desperate to leave. To Julian, it probably seemed like she was running away from him.

She reached the door and grabbed the handle, ready to make her escape. The light outside spilled in as she started to open it. Suddenly, a strong hand wrapped around her wrist, holding her in place. She couldn’t move an inch.

Startled, she looked up and met Julian’s dark, frustrated eyes.

Before she could say a word, he started leading her toward the elevator. “I’ll take you home.”

“I don’t want you to,” she protested.
