Julian was standing there in a sharp suit, his face dark with anger. No one had noticed when he’d walked in, but now his eyes were fixed on the scene, cold and menacing.
“Julian…” Helene’s voice was soft and shaky as she called out to him.
Julian stepped forward, his gaze landing on Madeline with a chill that made the air feel heavy. There was nothing but hatred and disgust in his eyes.
Madeline caught his look and let out a mocking smile.
“Julian, I’m in so much pain…” Helene whimpered.
Julian bent down to help her up. “Are you alright?” he asked, his voice gentler for her.
Helene bit her lip, a single tear slipping down her cheek. She shook her head, looking like she might break but holding herself together.
Julian’s eyes flicked over to Raine, who was getting up by herself. He didn’t bother softening his tone. “What happened?”
Raine immediately pointed at Madeline and Brenda, her voice shrill. “They started it…”
Brenda rolled her eyes. “Seriously? There are cameras everywhere.”
It was clear, with the security footage, who threw the first punch.
Raine pressed her lips together, refusing to give up. “Well, they were picking on Helene first. Mr. Grayson, Madeline called Helene a homewrecker…”
“That was me, not her,” Brenda interrupted without missing a beat.
Julian’s stare turned icy as he looked at Brenda.
Madeline stepped in front of Brenda, shielding her. She knew Julian was furious, and Brenda didn’t deserve to get caught in the crossfire just for sticking up for her.
Raine, annoyed at being interrupted, raised her voice. “Mr. Grayson, they called Helene a homewrecker, said she deserved to lose her baby back then. I couldn’t take it. I tried to talk to them, but… I couldn’t win. Mr. Grayson, you have to stand up for Helene.”
Helene leaned into Julian’s chest, sobbing. She looked heartbreakingly fragile.
“Julian, please don’t blame Ms. Monroe. I made mistakes too, back then. I get why she’s upset.” Helene sniffled and kept going, her voice trembling. “But Ms. Monroe, that child was my greatest pain. You took him from me. After all these years, you shouldn’t use him to hurt me again.”
