Helene and Raine looked like they’d just bitten into lemons—faces twisted and sour.
Raine wasn’t ready to back down. She glared at the manager, her voice sharp and loud. “Do you even know what you’re doing? Do you know who she is? She’s the daughter of the Fortner family. Mess with us, and we could have this place shut down before you can blink.”
The manager just gave her a cold, dismissive smile. “If you think you’ve got that kind of pull, go ahead and try.”
Raine, desperate not to get embarrassed, let out a loud, mocking laugh. “Madeline, you’ve actually managed to sink even lower. What, are you the owner’s new plaything? Because, honestly, how else would you end up friends with him?”
She practically spat out the word “friends,” dripping with sarcasm.
Madeline’s expression went stone cold. “You see dirt everywhere because that’s all you know. Isn’t that right?”
Raine bristled, her face flushing with anger. “What did you just say, Madeline? Who are you calling filthy?” She jabbed a finger at Madeline and took a step forward, but Brenda was quicker. She shoved Raine back, voice flat. “Did you not hear what she said?”
Raine was fuming now, her pride stung. She grabbed a mug from the table and flung the warm tea straight at Brenda.
Brenda didn’t even have time to dodge. The water splashed across her face.
“Brenda!” Madeline called out, her brows knitting together. Her eyes went chilly as she hurried to grab a towel and handed it to Brenda.
Brenda wiped the water from her face, barely fazed. She let out a dry laugh, eyes locked on Raine. “You started this.”
She tossed the towel onto the table, strode over to Raine, and grabbed a handful of her hair. “You little bitch. I’ve put up with your nonsense for long enough. You shameless hussy!”
