Twin Cupids at Work: Daddy, Come Home! novel Chapter 52

Helene’s whole face lit up and she spun around to Madeline. “Did you hear that, Madeline? Julian told you to leave!”

Madeline just tugged the corner of her mouth into a half-smile.

“I was talking to you,” Julian said, his voice so cold it could have chilled the room.

Helene’s smile froze, then slid right off her face. She blinked at him in disbelief. “Julian, you mean… me?”

She couldn’t accept it, so she had to ask again, desperate for a different answer.

But it was obvious.

A shiver ran through Helene. “But why? Julian, I was just thinking of you.”

Julian stared at her for a few seconds. “Don’t make me repeat myself.”

Helene bit down on her lower lip, hard. He was really angry this time, and she had no idea what set him off. As far as she was concerned, everything she did was for him.

She racked her brain, but nothing made sense. In the end, she decided to blame it all on Madeline.

It had to be her fault. If it weren’t for Madeline, Julian would never treat her this way.

She clenched her teeth, glaring at Madeline with all the hatred she could muster.

Madeline met her stare with a cool smirk, lifting a brow, her eyes full of smugness.

Sure enough, Helene looked like she might actually shatter her teeth. She was so furious she could barely stand it.

Madeline’s smile grew. It was childish, maybe, but it felt so good to get under Helene’s skin.

No matter how mad Helene got, there was nothing she could do.

Helene finally stormed out, her face twisted in anger.

Madeline didn’t bother with her anymore. She was only here for one thing: to see the child.

But where was he?

Why wasn’t he home yet? He should have been back from school ages ago.

Julian, now wide awake, stood with a dark look on his face. He seemed to realize Noah wasn’t home yet, either.

He turned and asked quietly, “Noah isn’t back?”
