Twin Cupids at Work: Daddy, Come Home! novel Chapter 54

To keep things low-key, they decided to meet in Oliver’s car.

This was the first time they’d gotten such a good look at each other, face to face. Both boys felt a rush of excitement that they tried to hide, but it sparkled in their eyes.

Oliver reached over and hugged Noah first. “We finally get to meet, Noah.”

Noah wasn’t used to this kind of warmth, and his serious face started to melt away. He hugged Oliver back, just a little awkward, but sincere.

“Why are you with that awful dad?” Oliver asked, his voice trembling a bit. “Mom and I always thought… we always thought…”

Noah let go and looked at Oliver, noticing his eyes were turning red. “Thought what?”

“We thought you were gone. We didn’t think you were still alive. If Mom finds out, she’ll be so happy.”

“Really?” Noah’s eyes lit up with hope. “You think Mom would really be happy to know I’m here?”

Oliver nodded so hard his hair bounced. “Of course! She’ll be over the moon. We’re her favorite little guys.”

Noah’s eyes widened.

So Mom hadn’t left him on purpose all those years ago. She loved him too. He was her beloved child.

“Then… do you think I can tell her I’m alive?”

Oliver shook his head. “You can, but not yet.”

He explained quietly, “If Mom finds out you’re with that bad dad, she’ll do anything to get you back. But you know she can’t win against him. If it turns into a fight, Mom’s the only one who’s going to get hurt.”

“And I can’t let that bad dad know about me either. There’s so much history between him and Mom. She’s scared he’ll take it out on me, so he can’t know I exist.”

Noah nodded. “I get it.”

“But even if we can’t tell Mom, you can go to her in my place,” Oliver said.

“Really?”

“Yeah, that’s why I wanted to meet. I want to stay with bad dad for a while, pretending I’m you.”

Oliver quickly laid out his plan.
