Twin Cupids at Work: Daddy, Come Home! novel Chapter 64

He quit his treatment halfway through. What was he thinking? Was his health just a game to him?

“Well… uh…” Miles honestly had no idea what was going on in Julian’s head either.

Julian’s moods were always unpredictable, and after hearing about Madeline’s “death” all those years ago, he’d only gotten worse. After so long, Miles had just gotten used to it. “Ms. Monroe, I’m not sure. Maybe Julian’s just in a bad mood today. When he feels better, maybe he’ll let you treat him again.”

Madeline couldn’t help but scoff. “Let her” treat him? Wasn’t he the one begging her for help? Now it sounded like she was the one forcing herself on him. Seriously?

She was just trying to see that child. Why was it so difficult?

“Ms. Monroe, please head home,” Miles said, then turned and left without another word.

Madeline glared at the floor-to-ceiling window and threw a flurry of imaginary punches at it. Julian, just wait. Next time you want my help, you’d better show up with a whole parade or forget it.

And as for seeing that kid, there’s no way sneaking into the Grayson family is the only option. He can’t possibly stay inside forever.

Madeline got in her car and left.

Upstairs, Julian stood by the window, watching every move she made. He pulled up the corners of his mouth in a bitter smile, but it faded quickly when he remembered why Madeline had come to him in the first place. His eyes turned cold.

“Come in,” he called out.

A bodyguard entered the room.

“From now on, make sure Madeline never sees Noah.”

If she wanted to see her son, he wasn’t going to make it easy for her.

“Yes, sir.”

Madeline got home, dragging her frustration with her. Standing at her front door, she took a deep breath, forced herself to smile, then stepped inside.

“Oliver, Mommy’s home!” she called out.

Noah heard her and quickly said to Oliver on the video call, “Oliver, Mommy’s back. I’ll talk to you later.”

“Okay, Noah. See you next time.”

As soon as the call ended, Madeline came in and saw Noah holding his laptop. She sat on the edge of his bed and smiled. “Oliver, what are you up to?”

Noah shook his head. “It’s nothing. Weren’t you going to the Graysons today? Why are you back so fast?”

Madeline sighed. “Don’t even ask. I didn’t even get through the door. Julian was acting so weird, he just suddenly refused treatment.”

Noah frowned. He knew Julian’s sleep problems were really bad. If his mom could help, why wouldn’t he let her? What was his deal?

“Why? Did you two argue again?”

“Just seeing him puts me in a bad mood.”

Noah had no words for that. Was his dad really that hard to like?

Madeline let out another sigh. “Maybe he’s just being moody. Whatever. If he doesn’t want my help, I can’t exactly force him.”

Noah figured he’d better get in touch with Oliver and see if he could help talk some sense into their dad.

“It’s late. Are you getting ready for bed?”
