Twin Cupids at Work: Daddy, Come Home! novel Chapter 90

Julian’s eyebrows drew together. “Where?”

“Northgate Hospital.”

Miles lowered his voice, so Madeline only caught bits and pieces—something about a little boy with a fever who was at Northgate Hospital.

A sudden heaviness settled in Madeline’s chest. She wanted to ask what was going on, but before she could, Julian had already gotten to his feet. His cold gaze flicked over her. “I’ll come by tonight for my treatment.”

He left those words behind and walked straight out the door.

“Take your card with you.”

Julian didn’t even respond. Miles gave Madeline a look as he followed. “Ms. Monroe, you should just keep it.”

Julian never took back anything he’d given away.

Watching him rush off, Madeline felt her heart twist even tighter.

Oliver must have heard the door opening and closing, realized the guests were gone, and peeked his head out from his room.

“Mommy, are they gone?”

Madeline put her thoughts aside and turned to him. “Yeah, they’re gone.”

Oliver came out, finally looking relaxed. “Mommy, what’s wrong? You look upset.”

She shook her head, smoothing his hair and forcing a little smile. “It’s nothing. You’ve got school today, remember? I’ll take you soon.”

Oliver was sure she wasn’t telling him everything, but then again, he had his own secrets.

Last night, Casey had stopped Helene and her friends, but Casey told him not to mention it to Madeline, so she wouldn’t worry. Oliver kept that to himself.
