There was a spark in Helene’s eyes. “It was Madeline, Julian. She called us last night and said you were at her place. She told us you passed out. We know how cruel she can be, and we were scared she might hurt you, so we rushed over to find you.” Her voice was soft, almost pleading. “We just didn’t expect to run into that mysterious man on the way. Julian, why did you go to Madeline’s last night? I was so worried about you.”

As she spoke, Helene kept her gaze fixed on Julian, hoping he would explain himself. But Julian barely reacted. He didn’t explain, just said, “Alright. I’ll let you know when we find whoever attacked you.”

Disappointment washed over Helene’s face. She hadn’t expected him to brush her off so easily. She wanted to say more, but Julian was already standing up.

“Julian, where are you going?” Helene grabbed his arm, her voice rising in panic. “Your mother and I are both hurt. Won’t you stay with us for a while?”

“I have things to do.”

Lucy, who was already upset, lost her temper. “What could be so important? I’m in a hospital bed and you’re leaving after just two minutes. What’s so urgent?”

Julian didn’t even flinch at her anger. If anything, his expression grew colder. “Maybe I should be asking you two. Noah spent the whole night outside by himself. Now he’s burning up with fever. How did that happen?”

Julian’s tone made Helene uneasy. She glanced nervously at Lucy.

Lucy scoffed, looking surprisingly calm. “Julian, are you blaming us for not watching him? He lost it last night, bit Helene, and ran out on his own. Why are you questioning us instead of him? Or do you think he’s more important than I am? He’s just a bas...”
