“I need to see Noah.”
Julian didn’t even hesitate. He shook his head, not buying their story for a second. Noah would never just sneak out and spend a whole night outside unless something serious had happened to him, something bad enough to leave him sick and passed out. He knew he wouldn’t get any more answers from them, so he turned and left the room, his steps quick and determined.
“Julian…” Helene hurried after him, her voice small. “Can I come with you?”
“You stay here.” His reply was sharp and final. Helene stopped in her tracks, not daring to push any further.
Lucy nudged her, lowering her voice. “Helene, what are you waiting for? Go after him. What if that kid is gonna say anything crazy to Julian?”
That snapped Helene out of her daze. She quickly gathered up their half-finished soup, poured it back into the thermos, and rushed out the door.
At the same time, Madeline finally arrived at the hospital. The Graysons always stayed in the private wing, and she didn’t know the room number. She tried asking a nurse, but of course, they wouldn’t tell her. So she stepped off the elevator and started searching the floor herself. As the elevator doors slid open, she spotted Julian striding down the hallway, his presence cold and intimidating. Helene was following close behind.
Madeline pressed her lips together and trailed after them. She watched as Julian and Helene entered a room up ahead. Two bodyguards in uniform stood outside, blocking Madeline from getting any closer, but at least now she knew the room number. That would help later.
Inside the room, Noah was already awake. He looked weak, his voice raspy as he kept asking for water. But the maid, instead of helping him, was lounging on the sofa, her legs crossed, munching on an apple. She looked annoyed. “Stop whining. You’re not a real Grayson, so stop acting like one. If you want water, get it yourself.”
Julian walked in just in time to hear that.
His face, already hard, turned ice cold. The whole room seemed to freeze over.
“Is this how you take care of Noah?”
