Twin Cupids at Work: Daddy, Come Home! novel Chapter 95

Madeline’s words landed right where it hurt. Helene pressed her lips together, trying to hide her shaking. She had every reason to feel insecure. Sure, Julian had promised to get engaged, but only because he thought they’d slept together years ago. He felt responsible, like marrying her would make things right. The truth was, someone else had been with her that night.

But that wasn’t even the worst part. What really made her uneasy was how obvious it was that Julian didn’t love her. The more she admitted that to herself, the more it gnawed at her. Now Madeline was back. Noah was always around Julian, like a ticking time bomb that could go off at any second. Of course Helene was scared. Of course she felt like she was losing her grip.

Madeline lifted an eyebrow, her lips curling into a mocking smile. “Madeline, I will be Julian’s wife. Just wait. You’ll see,” Helene said, her voice tight with frustration.

Madeline’s smile didn’t fade. “And what is it you want me to wait for? If you want to be his wife so badly, go for it.”

She turned, acting like she was done with the conversation. As she moved away, her hand slipped into her pocket and a photograph tumbled out. The picture was of Oliver.

Madeline kept walking, pretending she didn’t notice, but inside she was on edge. She was taking a risk. If that boy really looked exactly like Oliver, Helene would notice. She’d stop her and demand answers. Madeline needed to know the truth about that child. She needed to know if he was hers, even if it meant gambling everything.

Helene’s eyes narrowed when she saw the photo fall. She walked over, picked it up, and gave it a quick look. Her expression changed in an instant. “Why do you have a picture of Noah?”
