Twin Cupids at Work: Daddy, Come Home! novel Chapter 96

Madeline’s face turned even colder. She had never once thought about using her child for her own gain. The day she heard that one of her children had died was the worst day of her life. She still didn’t understand how her son had ended up with Julian in the first place.

Helene noticed the way Madeline’s expression darkened, and a sly smile crept onto her lips. “Did I get it right? Hit a nerve? Well, Madeline, your little plan isn’t going to work out anyway. That boy isn’t even Julian’s. Julian treats him more like a pet than a son, honestly. He doesn’t care about him at all. He can’t stand him. Do you even know why Noah’s in the hospital right now?”

Madeline didn’t know if Helene was telling the truth, but she felt her stomach drop anyway.

Helene watched her carefully, clearly enjoying every second. “Noah made a mistake last night, so Julian punished him by leaving him outside. In this freezing weather, too. The poor kid spent the whole night alone in the cold. They brought him to the hospital today, burning up with a fever—one hundred and two degrees.”

Helene let out a sharp, mocking laugh. “You’re a pretty heartless mother yourself, aren’t you?”

Madeline’s hands curled tightly, her chest aching with every breath.

Helene leaned in, voice low but cruel. “Let’s be real. The only reason Julian keeps that kid around is because he and I haven’t had a baby yet. But once we’re married and I give him a child, your precious little mistake won’t matter at all. He’ll mean nothing to anyone.”
