Drusilla stood outside, eavesdropping as they discussed her issue.
She bit her lip, unsure of what to say. But one thing was clear; she wasn't going to give in.
Deciding to leave the Taylor estate for a while, she headed home, planning to return later.
...
When she returned later, the first sight that greeted her was Harlan lounging at the patio table sipping on coffee.
As Drusilla approached, Harlan's gaze fixed on her, his lips curling into a smirk. "Back already, Aunt Drusilla?" he quipped.
His tone was mockingly sweet, deliberately using the title to tease her.
Drusilla raised an eyebrow and gave a calm response, "Why are you showing manners today, my niece’s husband? This isn't like you."
Insisting he call her 'Aunt' was a playful jab at him, and today, he seemed all too eager to play the victim, an odd choice indeed.
Harlan scowled and gazed at her, "You seem quite pleased with yourself now."
"Of course, I am." Drusilla boasted, "Being called 'Aunt' by my least favorite person every day feels right. How could I not be thrilled?"
Harlan glared at her smug expression, then dropped a bombshell, "I heard Enoch has two kids out there, kids who look just like him."
No matter how wealthy Enoch was, in Harlan's eyes, he was nothing more than a useless man bound to a wheelchair.
But as for himself, Harlan, women lined up for his attention.
Drusilla met his gaze, "I might be cheap, but no amount of money would make me sleep with you. Don't flatter yourself. Enoch might have his issues, but he's more of a man than you'll ever be!"
Her look was one of utter contempt, revealing secrets about Harlan that no one else knew. Despite being married for three years, they had never truly been husband and wife.
Enraged by her words, Harlan stormed off. If it weren't for the fact they were on Taylor property, he would have shown her his true colors long ago.
