Enoch wasn't exactly short on marriage prospects.
The whole issue wasn't about getting hitched in the first place!
It was about that woman, Odette, daring to take off just because Mr. Taylor got hurt!
They weren’t going to let her off the hook that easily.
Since Odette was nowhere to be found, the Lawson family would have to pay the price.
...
In the hospital room, Leander woke up to find Drusilla sitting by his side. His expression darkened with concern. “What are you doing here?” he asked, his voice as frosty as ever.
“Dad.” Drusilla looked at Leander, noticing how much older he seemed these past few years. His hair had almost gone completely white. She decided to put aside her stepmother's scheming for the moment and asked with genuine concern, “How are you feeling?”
Leander's icy demeanor didn't change.
“Leave,” he commanded.
After Oberon had left, Hestia walked in and said to Leander, “Honey, Drusilla came all the way to see you. Please don't be like that. You two have been at odds for years; it's time to bury the hatchet. Besides, the divorce wasn't entirely Drusilla's fault; Harlan shares some of the blame. If Harlan hadn't treated our Drusilla poorly, she wouldn’t have…”
Drusilla was taken aback to hear her trying to mend fences between her and her father, almost thinking she had misheard.
For years, her father's indifference was partly fueled by the mother-daughter duo, who never missed a chance to drive a wedge between them.
Hestia's face stiffened, feigning innocence as she said, “I’d hand over Odette if I could, but God knows where she's hiding now. So, Drusilla, would you take her place?
If you marry into their family, we won’t have to face bankruptcy. Your dad wouldn’t have to lie here worrying about these things. You don’t know how much this has taken a toll on him.”
Hestia wiped away a tear. She knew how to manipulate Drusilla's filial piety.
Drusilla didn’t want to engage with her. She merely glanced at her father’s grey hair, and she felt a twinge of sadness. “Dad, I’ll handle this. Don’t worry.” she said to him.
Hearing her, Leander asked, “You’d marry into the Taylor family, to Enoch, just like that?”
Drusilla responded, “If it comes to that, it wouldn’t be the worst thing. I’ve met him; he seems like a decent guy.”
