Blythe caught Cormac fretting over Verena and said, “Cormac.”
Truth be told, she hadn’t intended to be so harsh on Verena herself, but Verena’s lack of responsibility had really pushed her buttons.
Hearing Blythe, Cormac lifted his gaze momentarily before looking back at Verena.
Verena ruffled Cormac’s hair, “I gotta head out, but I’ll swing by again when I can.”
Cormac responded, “Verena, let me walk you out.”
Blythe watched anxiously… Surely, Verena wouldn’t take the kids away, would she?
Standing up, she followed them outside.
“There’s no need,” said Verena.
So, Cormac stayed put.
Blythe stood aside, observing Cormac with a hint of surprise.
She had half-expected Cormac to throw a tantrum like he did in the morning, refusing to eat or drink. But now… he seemed utterly unaffected?
Could it be that they’re really that attached to Drusilla, to the point of neglecting their own mother?
…
“Cormac,” Blythe inquired, “do you prefer your mom or Drusilla?”
Cormac looked at Blythe, puzzled, thinking to himself, what a silly question!
“I love my mom.”
“Oh.”
Blythe glanced in the direction Verena had left and said to the kids, “Let’s go upstairs for our nap.”
Lunch had been had, and now it was time for their afternoon rest.
