Drusilla said, "I'm heading back for today. I'll be back tomorrow. Before the Lawson family hits rock bottom, I'll have done everything I should."
With that, she gathered her things and walked out the door.
Enoch watched her leave...
Today, she was wearing a crisp white blouse paired with a black skirt, moving with the grace of a classically trained ballet dancer, reminiscent of an elegant swan.
Enoch caught himself reaching towards the armrest of his sofa, bewildered at his own insanity — was he really finding this woman attractive?
Attractive?
He immediately quashed the thought.
...
Drusilla made her way downstairs, where Blythe was chatting with Oberon. Spotting her, Blythe asked, “Dr. Lawson, how's Enoch?”
“He’s fine, upstairs. We’ve wrapped up for the day, so I’ll be heading out.”
“Oberon, would you mind giving Dr. Lawson a lift?” Blythe said with a nod towards Drusilla. “Thanks for today.”
Regardless of any personal connections to Enoch, in Blythe’s eyes, Drusilla was first and foremost a professional, deserving of all due courtesy.
Drusilla nodded, and Oberon led her out.
After a long day, she felt the fatigue setting in. Usually, she’d take a quick nap with her kids back home to recharge.
Settling into the car, Drusilla sighed, relieved to be heading home.
Oberon glanced at her, saying, “You’ve had a tough day, ma’am.”
“Ma’am?” Drusilla turned to him.
“Well, since you and Mr. Taylor are married, that makes you his wife, doesn’t it?”
“You know as well as I do, it’s only temporary.”
After their conversation dwindled, Oberon focused on driving, and Drusilla closed her eyes to rest.
Her phone rang after a while; it was her stepmother calling.
“Hello?” Drusilla answered.
“Drusilla, how are things going with Enoch?” Hestia asked, her tone polite despite the frustration Drusilla had caused her before leaving the hospital. The potential impact on the Lawson family had softened her stance.
“I’ve taken care of it. There won’t be any trouble at home for now. Tell dad not to worry.”
Being the only biological daughter, she felt an obligation to intervene in family matters, unwilling to shirk her responsibilities.
Hestia’s spirits lifted at the news. “Really? You and Enoch got married?”
Drusilla affirmed, aware of her stepmother’s likely thoughts, believing Drusilla had lucked out in marrying Enoch.
In her stepmother's eyes, Drusilla was meant to marry poorly, while her own daughter should marry far better.
