Hestia put on a concerned face as she tried to calm the situation, "Now, now, dear Saskia, you know how my girl can be a bit... naive. She's still just a girl at heart."
Saskia let out a sharp laugh, "A girl? She's got kids of her own, Hestia! You call that a girl? She's supposed to be a grown woman, and yet you say she's just a child. Do you have any idea what she's done?"
"What did she do?" Hestia asked, her voice tinged with disbelief.
Saskia took a deep breath, trying to steady her voice, "That shameless homewrecker! She took advantage of our Lilith being pregnant to cozy up to Harlan Stanton. And now Lilith's in the hospital, and the baby... the baby's gone."
Her voice broke, and tears streamed down her face. "My grandchild..."
Hestia stared at Saskia, shock etched across her features, "Drusilla? No, she wouldn't do something like that. She couldn't have!"
"Wouldn't she?" Saskia snapped back, her anger boiling over. "I just came back from the hospital! Get Leander Lawson out here! I want to hear how he explains this!"
Saskia had considered marching over to the Taylor family, but with Drusilla under Enoch Taylor's protection, she didn't dare. So, here she was, at the Lawson household, demanding answers from Leander.
The Lawsons weren't doing too well these days—Leander's health was failing, and Odette Lawson had made quite a few enemies, including Enoch. They couldn't hold a candle to the Stanton family, especially now that Harlan was doing well in the Larkin Group and married to Lilith Larkin. The Lawsons were no match for them.
Leander wasn't even brave enough to speak up in her presence.
Hestia suggested gently, "Why don't you come inside and sit for a bit?"
She led Saskia into the house.
Drusilla, hearing the commotion, frowned and turned to see her father already on his feet. "I'll go down and see what's happening," she said, but Leander was already making his way downstairs.
Leander asked calmly, "Are you sure it was her?"
"Who else?" Saskia snapped. "Your daughter has no shame! She couldn't stay faithful to Harlan when they were together, running around with other men. And now that she sees how well Harlan's doing, she's trying to worm her way back into his life. She's a vile woman! If it weren't for her, Lilith wouldn't be in the hospital."
The thought of Lilith's lost pregnancy made Saskia's blood boil.
As she ranted, her words were like a spray of venom, harsh and relentless.
Hestia, sitting quietly beside Leander, leaned over and whispered, "Honey, I just can't believe Drusilla would do such a thing. But look at Saskia; maybe we should call Drusilla down here and hear her side of the story?"
Despite her words of support, Hestia’s suggestion seemed more like an attempt to throw Drusilla to the wolves. Drusilla, still young and inexperienced, would be no match for the ferocity of someone like Saskia, who had decades of life—and confrontation—under her belt.
