Twins - The Unforeseen Legacy of My Ex's Uncle-in-Law novel Chapter 74

Harlan was in a tight spot, staring blankly as his world seemed to turn upside down. He had only gotten married with Lilith a few days back, dreaming of climbing the social ladder through her connections, eyeing a spot within the prestigious Taylor Group. But before he could even make a move, Enoch was already plotting to ship him off to Africana?

Internally, Harlan was seething with fury.

Yet, on the surface, he had no choice but to swallow his pride and grovel. "Uncle Enoch, I really do realize my mistake. Please, reconsider! Lilith and I have just married, and she can't bear to be apart from me. I can't just leave now!"

"Lilith has her family, so what's she needing you for? They're more than capable of taking good care of her," Enoch stated, his face a mask of finality, as if the matter was already settled.

Harlan couldn't fathom why Enoch seemed to have it out for him so personally.

Was it all because of Drusilla?

Did he really need to go to such lengths over a woman who had been married before?

Confronting Enoch, Harlan dared to ask, "Uncle Enoch, why... why Drusilla, of all people?"

Enoch raised an eyebrow, giving Harlan a scrutinizing look.

Harlan, feeling the weight of Enoch's gaze, continued cautiously, "With someone of your stature, settling for someone like Drusilla doesn’t make sense. I've known her for years, and she's just not worth all the effort you're putting in. If you’re worried about finding someone, I could introduce you to someone far better than Drusilla."

Hearing this, Enoch looked at Harlan with a depth that seemed to pierce through to the core, saying, "Regardless, she's your ex-wife. You've shared a life together, and this is how you speak of her?"

Harlan stumbled over his words, "I... I was good to her once. But that woman... she didn’t know how to behave. She even cheated on me. My disappointment in her is beyond words! Can you blame me? As a man, could you tolerate being cuckolded?"

Sitting back, Enoch listened to Harlan's tirade against Drusilla, sensing that something didn't quite add up.

Previously, the narrative had been simple: Drusilla cheated, and that was that. No one delved deeper.

But Enoch's inquiry was shedding new light on the matter, leaving Harlan scrambling for a plausible explanation.

After a moment, Harlan ventured, "Apparently, the guy was married. So..."

"So, Drusilla left you, had two kids, and now harbors resentment only towards you, not the man?" Enoch mused aloud.

It didn't add up. If the man had wronged Drusilla, logically, her grievances should lie with him, not Harlan, who she seemed to despise.

Reflecting on Drusilla's claims that the children were born at Harlan's insistence seemed more credible in this twisted tale.
