Two Times the Charm (Clara and Emmett) novel Chapter 154

But she couldn't just say that!

If she told Emmett that he was the only man she'd ever been with, the truth about the baby would be out in the open.

Emmett was a smart guy, he'd figure it out in no time!

"...There was no other man, just...you and Taylor..." Clara had to admit.

Hearing her answer, Emmett felt a deep pang in his heart.

Despite having braced himself for this for countless times, hearing it from Clara's own lips still stung him deeply.

"So the kid is his."

"...Can I not answer that question?" She really didn't want to lie anymore!

Emmett sat back down and waved his hand, "Alright, you can go now. I need some time to cool off, we'll talk about this later."

Clara glanced at him. As she was about to leave, she turned back to ask, "Would you...divorce me because of Taylor?"

"Do you want your freedom?"

Clara clenched her fists, "Actually, there's nothing between Taylor and me—"

"Out!"

"No, it's just probably the heat, I'm not feeling so well."

"Well then, stop working. I'll do it! I've got nothing much going on right now anyway." Ricardo reached out to take the chart back.

"No, no!" Clara quickly gestured him to stop, "This is supposed to be my job! You've already helped me a lot. If I'm here at work, I should be the one doing it! Besides, I know you're busier than I am."

Ricardo scratched his head with an awkward grin, "Well, you're Mr. Melendez's wife. Everyone can tell that Mr. Melendez really cares about you, and since I owe him one, it's only right that I help you out. But if you insist on doing it yourself, then go ahead. I'll go do my own stuff."

Clara watched Ricardo turn to leave, then suddenly asked, "Do you think...Emmett loves me?"

Ricardo was taken aback, blurting out, "Of course! In all the years I've been with Mr. Melendez, I've never seen him care so much about someone. To be honest, I almost never saw Mr. Melendez smile before. But now, with you, even his attitude towards us has improved a lot!"
