Just as Clara was about to speak, a sudden commotion came from outside.
They rushed out to see what was going on, and it seemed like there was a showdown happening right at the entrance.
"I'll go check it out! You stay put, in case they start throwing punches, you might get hurt and that would upset Mr. Melendez."
Clara was never one for rubbernecking, so she just nodded, "Alright, I'll get working on that performance chart. We're supposed to announce it this afternoon, right?"
"Yep. But if you're not feeling up to it, we can always postpone it till tomorrow!"
"No, I’ll be fine."
Ricardo chuckled and left.
And then there was her alone... left in the office.
Clara stood there, her feelings even more complicated than when she was abroad! Back then, it was fear, but now... it was like a wave of emotions crashed over her, leaving her gasping for air.
Finally, the work day was over. Clara looked at the office door, surprisingly feeling a bit down.
Usually at this time, Emmett would have come to take her home.
She checked the time and dialed up Aiden and Alex's school, "Hello, I'm Aiden and Alex's mom. Have they been dismissed?"
"Mrs. Melendez? They've already been picked up by the Melendez family!"
"Oh!... How's Alex doing at school?" She was still a bit worried.
"Alex is full of energy! Always hanging around his brother." The teacher chuckled, "Don't worry, we have one-on-one teacher-student ratios here! We'll communicate with the parents if there are any issues."
"Thank you for your help!"
After hanging up, Clara tidied up her desk.
Looks like she was going home alone today!
"Huh?"
"You need to understand, I'm a man, and when a man gets jealousy..." There was a hint of helplessness and indulgence in Emmett's eyes, "Of course, I know you didn't expect to run into me. You and Taylor were probably happy together, never thought you'd break up, let alone marry me."
His sudden compromise left Clara a little flustered.
She had already assumed that Emmett was definitely going to divorce her this time!
"Emmett..."
"Let me finish." His voice was a little hoarse, suggesting he had also been going through a mental struggle, "I shouldn't have kept testing you, and I won't do it again. But... I think we need a permanent solution to our problems."
"And what's your solution?"
"Let's... have a child." Emmett looked at her seriously, "That way, there'll be a bond between us, not just you and me."
