“Don’t
But that didn’t stop my ex–husband from leaning forward and trying to catch my eye. you remember all the good times we had here?” he asked, his loud voice making me wince. “Even though I loved you since we were kids, this is the place where we truly fell for each other. This was the place where I knew that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you.”
Anger surged through me, and I spun around. Before I could give him a piece of my mind, Alexander snorted.
“Really? If you wanted to spend the rest of your life with her, then why would you cheat on her?” he asked and lifted one eyebrow.
Ethan whipped his head and glared at Alexander. The air between them crackled with electricity. A look passed between Gai and me. This was a mistake. Why did I agree to be in a small space with these two men? It was like willingly agreeing to walk onto a battlefield.
A vein in Ethan’s forehead bulged as he crossed his arms. He looked out the window, and his face changed. His eyes widened, and he grinned. “Stop the car!”
Gai didn’t even blink an eye. She kept driving slowly through the parking lot.
“Gai is not on your payroll,” I coldly reminded Ethan. “She doesn’t follow your orders. Especially not when you’re shouting at her.
Alexander smirked and caught my eye.
“I
But my reprimanding didn’t detour Ethan. “I only suggested that she stop so that you and I could get out of the car and walk around the campus.” His voice was gentle and soft, but I knew it was an act. “I thought that it could be fun if we reminisced about the past.” He paused. “I could even carry you because of your injury.”
“Thanks, but no thanks,” I snapped as my blood boiled from his suggestion. “I don’t remember anything from our time here,” I lied. “That was a long time ago, and I never think of you. Ever. You’re dead to me, Ethan Hawthorne.”
My words finally made Ethan’s mask slip. His eyes darkened with rage, and he sneered. He reached for me. “Don’t ever say that to me

Alexander blocked his hand, making sure that Ethan couldn’t get to me. “Why can’t you understand that she doesn’t love you anymore? The only reason that I allowed you to be in my car was so that you could get that through your thick skull.”
Ethan angrily shook his head and roughly shoved Alexander’s hand off of him.
I gasped as Alexander’s hand flew through the air, then smacked into the car window. The thud echoed in the compact space. Worry for Alexander filled me. What if Ethan tried to fight him and seriously injured him? Gai and I weren’t strong enough to stop him. The fire burning in Ethan’s eyes made me freeze. I’ve seen that look before. My ex–husband’s anger was similar to a volcano, and he was about to erupt.
I had to do something. I forced myself to make my voice gentle.
“Ethan, are you going to keep your promise and remain calm?” I said like I was speaking to a cornered animal.
My blood ran cold as I waited for his response.

Instead of looking at Ethan, my eyes automatically went to Alexander. He was gazing at me with pride shining in his eyes. A slow smile spread across his face, making a hot flush curl up my spine. Even though I tried to suppress it, I was pleased that Alexander was proud of me for standing up to Ethan, especially on his behalf.
I blushed and managed to tear my gaze away from his. Begrudgingly, I looked back at my ex- husband.
Ethan was staring at me with shock. He looked between Alexander and me, shaking his head slowly. “Why isn’t this working?” he murmured to himself under his breath. Was he not aware that we could hear him? “I brought you here so that you could remember how much we loved each other.” He gazed at me with confusion. “How do you not remember how much I meant to you? How could being at the place where we truly fell in love with each other not stir those old feelings inside of you?” He gripped his chest. “It does for me, Olivia. Being here makes me realize more than ever that I will always love you. You’re it for me.
