Chapter 325
“Oh, no,” Helen murmured and clutched her phone tightly in her hand. “What did Alexander bring her in for?” Even though she already knew the answer, she needed to hear the doctor say it so she could fully process it.
“Olivia was scared that she was pregnant because their contraception failed last night,” the doctor
told her.
Helen froze as Dr. Robertson’s words ran through her head. “Please tell me that you made that girl swallow the morning after pill. I will not allow Alexander to have a child with that gold digger.”
Dr. Robertson shifted uncomfortably in her seat. But she reminded herself that she needed Helen’s money. “She took the pill. And I prescribed her birth control that she and Alexander are picking
up now.
Helen sighed as dread settled low in her stomach. “Thank you, Dr. Robertson. The money will be deposited into your account at the end of the day.” Then, she abruptly hung up. Alexander’s mom put her hands behind her back and began to pace her kitchen.
She couldn’t believe that her smart and successful son could make such an idiotic decision. If Alexander ended up getting his assistant pregnant, he would never be able to show his face in high society again. Helen would be the gossip in all of her social circles and not in the way she wanted to be. Until Dr. Robertson had confirmed their torrid affair, Helen didn’t want to believe that her perfect boy could stoop so low, but she couldn’t deny the truth any longer.
After a few more minutes of pacing and processing this terrible news, Helen decided that she couldn’t handle this alone. She called her husband, Neil, who was in the middle of a golf game. It took some convincing, but he finally agreed to come home. Helen wouldn’t tell him the news over the phone. She said that something this big had to be done in person.
When Neil Green arrived home, Helen was waiting for him in the sitting room. She had the maid prepare coffee and tea, although her cup of coffee was now lukewarm because she couldn’t even bring herself to drink anything when her stomach was so queasy.
Neil sat beside his wife in his favorite red armchair. “Honey, what happened?” he asked. “Why do you look so pale?” He paused. “Someone hasn’t died, have they?”
Helen crossed her legs. “Someone may as well have,” she answered and sniffed primly. Quickly, she explained her news.

Neil blinked at his wife for a few moments after she was done speaking. “Oh, is that all?” He chuckled and leaned back in his seat. “You scared me.”
Helen’s mouth dropped open. “Why aren’t you more concerned!”
“Why should I be?” Neil asked and shrugged. “So our boy is dating that pretty little secretary? At least they are being safe, and Alexander made sure that she’s on the pill. I’m just happy that Alexander isn’t dating that Cater boy.” Neil noticed that his wife’s face was growing red, and he continued to reassure her. “I bet that Alexander is just going through a phase. It’s not like he’s going to marry this woman.” Neil prepared a cup of coffee for himself. As he stirred the sugar into his cup, he smiled at his wife. “For now, we should just stay out of it and let the relationship naturally run its course.‘
“}
Helen didn’t respond and crossed her arms tightly across her chest. She couldn’t believe that her husband wasn’t as concerned as her. Bitterness filled her mouth like she had just taken a large sip of black coffee. Now, she was going to be forced to play the role of the bad guy and break up Alexander and Olivia. But she would do it. Even if doing so turned her son against her, Alexander would thank her in the long run.
As a plan formed in her mind, a satisfied smirk bloomed across her face. “Neil, cancel Alexander’s business trip to the UK branch next week.‘
“Why?” he asked and set down his coffee cup.
“You’ll see.” Helen answered evasively and turned away from her husband.
