Despite myself, I laughed. Leave it to my best friend to enjoy the drama.
After we said our goodbyes, Ava walked out, and the elevator doors slid shut after she was gone. As soon as Alexander and I were alone in the compact space, I took a deep breath to try and calm my racing heart. I prepared myself to turn around and face him.
Apparently, I wasn’t going fast enough for Alexander’s liking. His strong arms wrapped around my waist, and he pulled me against his hard body.
I let out a mix between a gasp and a moan. My body automatically relaxed into his warm, hard frame. A hot blush spread across my cheeks as my head lolled by onto his chest. I cursed my hormones since this was exactly where I wanted to be.
“Did you have a nice night?” Alexander whispered in my ear.
His warm breath made a shiver run down my spine. There was a dangerous undercurrent in his voice that warned me I should proceed with caution, but I couldn’t bring myself to feel afraid in Alexander’s presence. Being stuck in an elevator with him didn’t cause me any fear.
I only felt excited.
“I did have a nice night,” I answered, and my blush grew even more when I heard how shaking my voice was. The only thing I didn’t like about tonight was the three uninvited guests that showed up at my door expecting me to feed them.”
A deep rumble came from his chest as Alexander chuckled. The sound made anticipation curl low in my belly.
“I deserve an award for not killing that stupid doctor,” Alexander murmured.
Anger surged through me and I turned around to tell him off for saying something like that, but once I was facing him, Alexander cupped my cheeks with his warm hands and kissed me like I was the air itself and he was slowly suffocating.
His lips were warm and needy. I threaded my fingers through his thick hair, drawing him closer to me. A loud smack reverberated through our small space as his back hit the wall. His long fingers pressed against my back as he pressed my body against his.
I moaned into his insistent mouth as his tongue moved against mine. As we made out in the

elevator, my hands explored his muscular body, wanting to touch every inch of him. I put every emotion I felt for this man at that moment behind my kiss; anger, attraction, annoyance…there was a fourth warm emotion that I couldn’t really describe.
All I knew was that it was like a warm feeling inside of my chest. I was too much of a chicken to explore this feeling anymore. I wasn’t ready to find out what it was.
When he pulled away, I quickly drew in air, my lungs screaming in protest since I hadn’t breathed in what felt like an hour but couldn’t have been more than a few moments. Alexander’s eyes darkened with equal parts of desire and anger. His lips were red and swollen, and I knew that mine looked the same. If anyone walked into the elevator right now, they would know exactly what we had been doing.
“We’re going for a drive,” he murmured as a burst of cool air hit my back.
I shivered since the cold temperature was contrasting the heat that was racing across my body. I turned around, and my stomach flipped when I realized we were still on the lobby floor. Since we hadn’t picked a floor, the elevator had just stayed where it was.
“Where are we going?” I asked as Alexander took my hand and pulled me into the empty lobby.
“I’m not sure yet,” he replied as we walked onto the busy street.
We were quiet as we made our way to the parking garage. My thoughts were filled with Alexander’s anger and our passionate kiss. I wished that our relationship wasn’t so dramatic. Why couldn’t we ever have a normal night? I knew that it was partly my fault because I was the one who demanded that we keep our relationship a secret.
When we stopped at his car, Alexander looked down at me, and his face softened as he stared deeply into my eyes. He brushed a lock of my hair behind my ear and gently kissed the corner of my mouth.
A lump developed in my throat. Why couldn’t he be sweet like that all the time?
