Chapter 372
Did Stanley think that she was his illegitimate child? Did he think that her parents stole her?
Olivia’s hands began to shake. That wasn’t possible…was it?
The doorbell ringing interrupted her chaotic thoughts. Her head was spinning as conspiracy theories formed in her mind.
“I’ll get it,” Olivia offered, her voice breathless. She could use the distraction.
But the two people standing on her parents‘ porch when she opened the door only made her more upset.
Aidyn and his mother.
Skylar beamed at Olivia when she opened the door. She was determined to make that girl be her daughter–in–law ever since she heard about her divorce from a millionaire. Olivia must have gotten some of that money in the settlement.
“Hi, Olivia! We were in the neighborhood and thought we would come say hi,” Aidyn said as his eyes
trailed down her body.
Olivia tried to keep the smile from slipping off her face, wishing that she had just stayed in bed this morning.

Olivia had no choice but to invite Skylar and Aidyn into her parents‘ house. Her instincts were telling her to turn them away and make up some excuse about how it was an inconvenient time for them to have guests right now, but she knew that her mother would be angry with her if she sent away one of her oldest friends.
She led them into the kitchen and tried to smile at the uninvited guests, but she was sure that it looked more like a grimace. “Look who came to visit,” Olivia said to her mother.
Polin’s eyes sparked with delight when she caught sight of her friend and Aidyn. They were exactly the kind of buffers she needed to distract Stanley. As Skylar and Polin greeted each other with air kisses, Olivia busied herself by making more tea to avoid Aidyn, who was trying his best to catch her eye.

“Hi, there. I’m Stanley,” the older man said to Aidyn and thrust out his hand for him to shake.
Aidyn sat beside Stanley, and the latter immediately struck up a conversation with the younger man. Soon, Aidyn was telling Stanley about what kind of medicine he practiced.
Olivia bit her lip to keep herself from smiling. Part of her was grateful that Aidyn and his mother showed up unannounced. Aidyn was a good distraction for Stanley, and now Polin seemed more relaxed as she chatted with her friend.
Since Olivia wanted to be alone with her thoughts ever since the possibility of being Stanley’s biological daughter hit her like a freight train, she turned on the oven. Then, she took out the container of raspberry almond scones that she and her mother made yesterday. After putting them on an oven–safe pan, she slid them inside to warm up. She poured two more glasses of tea for Aidyn and Skylar and prepared another pot of coffee to brew.
Aidyn kept glancing at her as Stanley talked his ear off. But Olivia pretended like she didn’t notice the hopeful looks. She wasn’t in the mood to reject him again. He should have gotten the hint the first time.
As the scones heated, the kitchen was filled with the smell of sugar, raspberries, freshly brewed coffee, and a hint of citrus from the tea. Once she pulled the scones from the oven, Olivia closed her eyes and took a moment to breathe. She pushed the chatter around her into the back of her mind, trying to calm herself after the stressful morning that she has had.
Now that her heart rate was lowered, she piled the scones onto a porcelain plate and put them in the middle of the counter.
“Would anyone like more tea or coffee?” she asked the room.
Polin smiled at her daughter, glad that she had taken over the job as hostess since she had been too thrown off by Stanley’s surprise visit to do it herself.
Before anyone could answer Olivia’s question, the doorbell rang.
