Chapter 383
I let out a loud moan as he trailed searing kisses down my sensitive neck. My wet center was aching with desire for him, and I wanted nothing more than for him to carry me into my bedroom and have his wicked way with me. But things were so messy between us right now, and I knew that sex wouldn’t fix things.
It would only complicate things further.
So, I forced myself to unwind my legs and gently push Alexander away.
His chest was heaving as he stumbled away, his desire for me evident in the hard length straining against his black pants.
“I need some fresh air,” I gasped while sucking in breath after breath. “Let’s go to the roof, like you said.
Alexander nodded reluctantly.
He took my hand, and we rode the elevator up to the very top floor.
My legs were still shaking as we stepped onto the concrete roof. The fresh air hit my face, clearing my thoughts, and I was greeted with an amazing view of the city. The sun was setting, painting the sky with a riot of colors.
This scene was the perfect setting for romance.
There was only one problem.
Standing in the middle of the roof was a beautiful woman staring at us with a cat–like smile.
“Hello, Alexander,” she purred.
“Jess…”
*Olivia*
My heart dropped to the ground and crashed through floor after floor, landing in the lobby.
I dropped Alexander’s hand, wanting to make a quick escape. The irrational part of my mind was already urging me to jump off the side of the building. That would be better than standing here and staring at Alexander’s ex–lover.

Jealousy tore through my body, setting fire to all of my vital organs.

I should have known something like this would happen. Whenever Alexander and I began to grow closer, the universe threw something at us to test our relationship. Why was our connection so intense if we weren’t meant to end up together? Were we just destined to be heartbroken in the end?
This thought kept repeating in my mind as I tried to shuffle away from Alexander. I wanted to put distance between us right now. I couldn’t stand feeling the warmth coming off of his body. Usually, it would bring me comfort, but all it did was remind me that Jess had once felt that same warmth, too.
She had experienced his soft yet strong lips on her mouth, her perfect, alabaster skin, all over her body. She had laid her head on his chest and wound her legs around his waist, pressing her soft body against his. Jess had him first.
And there was nothing that I could do to change that.
As if she could read my mind, Jess smirked at me and threw her icy white hair over her shoulder. She was tiny, probably not even five feet. But she still had curves in all the right places. Jess was gorgeous, even I had to admit that.
Alexander noticed that I was trying to distance myself from him, and he wrapped his warm arm around my shoulders, pressing me against his side.
This act of affection in front of Jess made my heart lift, and I couldn’t help the smug smile that crossed my face. I knew it was petty to act this way, but I was only human.
Jess’s eyes zeroed in on the place where our bodies connected, and then she set her gaze on me like I was her prey.
I met her bright blue eyes and lifted my chin. I wanted her to know that I wasn’t intimidated in the slightest by her.
“What are you doing here, Jess?” Alexander asked coldly as he walked over to her, taking me with him.
Jess’s hair was floating around her face. The color was so light that it was almost white. This girl was like a mix between a cat and an ice princess.
To
my utter shock, the door behind us opened up, and Mike walked through. He threw me an apologetic look and then walked over to stand beside Jess.
Betrayal hit me like an arrow to the temple. Was Mike working with Jess? Someone could only get on the roof if they lived here. Mike must have been the one to let her in.

“Your mother came to the apartment a few hours ago,” he informed Alexander. “She brought Jess along with her and told me that Jess was going to stay in your apartment since it’s close to the office.”
No. Hell no.
My ears rang, and my first instinct was to jump on Jess and claw her eyes out. Of course, I didn’t do that. On the outside, I remained stoic. I’d be damned if I was going to allow Jess to know that she had gotten a reaction out of me. But on the inside, my heart broke in half, and the green eyed monster that lived in my head was demanding that I push Jess off the building and into traffic.
“My suitcase is in the guest room,” Jess told Alexander and grinned. “But I can always move it into your room if you’d prefer.”
I saw red and had to stop myself from slapping Jess’s smug face. I would be the bigger person and rise above in this situation. I would not allow my jealousy to get the best of me.
“I tried to call you so that I could warn you, but your phone went to voicemail,” Mike said, his tone full of regret.
My heart went out to him. Mike had only been doing his job and now he was probably scared that he was going to be fired and blamed all because Alexander’s mother couldn’t keep her nose out of her son and I’s relationship.
“I don’t blame you at all, Mike,” Alexander said calmly and smiled reassuringly at his nervous friend. “You may go and wait downstairs in the penthouse.”
Mike’s shoulders slumped in relief. “Thank you,” he muttered. Then, he glared at Jess, smiled at me, and hurried off of the roof.
Alexander turned to Jess, his jaw clenching. “Did my mother inform you that I have a girlfriend?”
Jess glared at where Alexander was touching me, but she said nothing.
“Because I am with someone, I am not comfortable with you living with me. It wouldn’t be fair to Olivia,” Alexander continued and tightened his arm around me.
That was the final straw for Jess. Her tough act crumbled, and her eyes filled with tears. She jutted out her lower lip, and it started to tremble.
“I can’t believe you’ve moved on so quickly…” she murmured almost to herself.
Alexander let out a surprised huff. “Quickly? It’s been two years, Jess.”
