Chapter 5: Slap in the Face

The moment Amelia heard the name Nygards, a chill settled over her eyes, turning them icy cold. “Alright,” she murmured with a fierce resolve, “it’s time they finally witness how the real daughter—whom they so carelessly discarded—is thriving now.”

Jeremy gave a satisfied nod. “I’ll come by to pick you up at seven on Saturday evening,” he said firmly.

He hesitated for a moment before adding with a teasing grin, “And make sure you dress well. My personal doctor shouldn’t show up at a fancy dinner wearing a lab coat.”

Amelia accepted the sleek black card he handed her. “Got it. I’ll dress appropriately.”

Having left her family home with nothing but the clothes on her back, money was scarce. Refusing this offer wasn’t even an option. Besides, since she was assisting him with his treatment, asking for some compensation seemed only fair.

Jeremy had even assigned her an assistant—Tracy Gatlin—to help with anything she might need.

After giving her these final instructions, he left the room.

As the door closed behind him, Amelia quietly thought to herself, *Not bad at all. He really has thought of everything.*

Later, she indulged in a long, hot shower and drifted into a deep, restful sleep. When she woke, she felt rejuvenated, as if a fresh breeze had swept through her soul. Since escaping the Nygards’ suffocating grasp, even the air around her seemed cleaner, lighter.

Reaching for her phone, she noticed it was flooded with messages from the Nygards. She had forgotten to block them earlier.

A flicker of vengeful satisfaction sparked inside her. One by one, she began replying.

Marcelo’s message blinked on the screen: “Where are you? Come back! We need to talk!”

Without hesitation, Amelia shot back, “Get lost!” and promptly blocked him.

A cold smile tugged at the corner of her lips as she scrolled further.

Miguel’s message appeared next: “Amelia, stop being stubborn. Come home now or you’ll regret it.”

Her fingers typed swiftly, “Sorry, my only regret is not leaving sooner.”

Then came Maxwell’s angry text: “Amelia, you ungrateful wretch! After everything we’ve done for you, even a dog knows how to show thanks.”

She replied sharply, “If I’m a dog, then you’re worse than one.”

Gianna, the fake sister, sent a message: “Amelia, where are you? Aren’t you coming back?”

Amelia’s answer was cold and cutting: “Don’t worry. Even if I don’t return, I’ll still expose your little act for what it really is.”

Finally, Raymond’s message popped up: “You disgrace! Come back now. We need to talk.”

Her response was quick and resolute: “Mr. Nygard, we’re done. What’s left to discuss? The 30% company shares? Forget it! I’d rather die than hand them back.”

With a decisive tap, she blocked the entire Nygard family.

Only one word captured how she felt in that moment:

Satisfying.

Hah! All their sweet words were just a mask for their greed over the shares.

The clock read 12:36 PM.

+3 Pearls

So fake!

After blocking them, Amelia tossed her phone aside and stretched languidly, basking in the warm sunlight pouring through the window. The day outside looked perfect, inviting.

She decided to step out and find a dress for the upcoming charity gala.

Dialing Tracy’s number, she said, “Tracy, could you please take me to the shopping mall?”

Half an hour later, Amelia stood before the city’s most luxurious shopping center, its glass façade gleaming under the afternoon sun.

She strode confidently toward a high-end boutique.

“Miss, these are all the newest styles for this year,” a cheerful staff member greeted her with a smile.

Amelia pointed at a champagne-colored gown displayed elegantly on a mannequin. “I want to try that one.”
