When the Dead Still Call novel Chapter 66

he Heiress They Couldn’t Break

Chapter 66 Date at Flame House

If people kept misunderstanding, Anderson would never find a girlfriend.

Amelia said nothing.

She finally nodded.

Jeremy stayed calm, as if nothing had happened. “What do you want to eat?”

Amelia shot him a glance and said casually, “Barbecue.”

“Then let’s go to Flame House. Their grilled portobello mushrooms are fantastic.” Jeremy made the decision for her.

Amelia shrugged. “Alright.”

Half an hour later, they arrived at Flame House.

Amelia stared at the sizzling barbecue on the table, then at Jeremy. Somehow, it didn’t feel out of place.

Jeremy usually ate fancy meals, so seeing him here felt surreal.

He had taken off his jacket and was now in a simple shirt. Despite this, he still looked effortlessly elegant.

From what Amelia knew, Jeremy was the Grim King in the business world. He was cold, sharp, and merciless. But after falling sick, he rarely showed up in public.

If people saw him now, sleeves rolled up, calmly grilling barbecue, their jaws would drop.

Jeremy grilled a slice of wagyu steak and placed it gently on her plate.

“Try this. It’s their specialty,” he said, putting a perfectly grilled piece of beef onto Amelia’s plate.

Amelia looked at the juicy slice and said quietly, “Thanks.”

She took a bite. The rich flavor melted on her tongue. Her eyes softened in delight.

Jeremy watched her satisfied expression and couldn’t help but smile. “Do you like it?”

“Mhm.” Amelia nodded, showing a rare trace of warmth.

“Then eat more,” he said, smiling affectionately.

After a short pause, Jeremy suddenly spoke, “You don’t need to hold back because of the Nygards. Do what you want. I’ll always have your back.”

He had seen them insult Amelia more than once. Their language was foul and cruel. The things they said still made his blood boil.

Who in their right mind would abandon their daughter over an adopted daughter?

Unbelievable. Some families really take crazy to a whole new level.

Amelia froze for a moment, then smiled. “Thank you.”

Her smile looked a little forced, but it was still radiant.

Just then, a shrill voice interrupted their quiet moment.

“Amelia? Is that really you? Weren’t you supposed to be abroad?”

Another voice cut in mockingly, “Abroad? You mean missing! I heard she got sold off to some mountain town and married some old man! Guess it’s a miracle she made it back alive!”

“Oh my gosh, Amelia, is that true? How awful!”

“Poor thing! That’s tragic!”

Voices filled the air–men and women taking turns to speak up, like a comedy show.

Amelia turned toward the voices.

Chapter 66 1

Clifford Orren, the guy leading the group, smirked and said with fake concern, “We were worried about you after everything that happened. But looking at you now, it seems like life in the mountains treated you pretty well, huh?”
