Amelia was a little surprised–she hadn’t expected Ursula to flip so fast.

Maybe it was because Thea was her daughter; parents always side with their own children.
Pretty soon, Ursula’s tone shifted. “But your father says you disrespect your elders and cut ties with the family–what’s that about?”
There was unmistakable displeasure in Ursula’s tone.
A mocking smile curled at Amelia’s mouth. “Grandma, do you really think a normal father would kick his own daughter out just to raise a foster child?”
Ursula’s brow tightened. “Gianna has always been so obedient and sensible.”
“Obedient and sensible?” Amelia cut her off. “Do you know how she set me up again and again? Do you know she drugged me to steal my fiancé? Hired people to humiliate me?”
Ursula’s eyes went wide in shock. “Th–that can’t be!”
Amelia pulled out her phone and played a recording.
It was the same tape the family had already heard–and Ursula shouldn’t be spared it.
Let them hear it, Amelia thought, let them see what the ‘sweet, obedient‘ Gianna really is.
When Ursula finished listening, her face had gone ashen.
Ursula closed her eyes wearily. “Go on–leave me for a bit. I need some space for myself.”
Amelia bowed politely and turned to go.
Just outside the study, she caught sight of Gianna skulking around the corner.
“Amelia–Grandma didn’t give you a hard time, did she?” Gianna forced a calm voice.
Damn, she thought.
Has that bitch been talking nonsense? If Grandma believes her, what then?
Amelia sneered. “What, are you scared I’ll expose your dirty little secrets?”
A flash of panic crossed Gianna’s eyes; she put on a tearful act. “Amelia, I know you hate me, but Grandma’s old–she can’t take the shock.”

Amelia gave her a contemptuous look. “Had enough acting?”
She stepped closer and dropped her voice. “Gianna, do you really think such cheap tricks would fool Grandma?”
Gianna went pale and forced a smile. “What are you talking about? I don’t understand.”
“Don’t worry–Grandma heard the recording I played earlier, so you can stop pretending.”
With that, Amelia walked straight toward the stairs.
Suddenly, an idea lit up in Gianna’s head; venom flashed in her eyes.
