Mr. and Mrs. Gonzalez, however, weren't concerned with the details.
They had been considering giving in to their daughter's wishes for her own sake.
But now that Zebulon seemed even more deferential to them than before, the idea of maintaining the marriage alliance was, of course, the best possible outcome.
The two of them eagerly pulled Zebulon into a long conversation.
They even insisted he stay for lunch and chatted with him about various matters.
In the afternoon, Mr. Gonzalez had to leave for a business meeting, and Mrs. Gonzalez had an appointment with Mrs. Hughes for a spa treatment, leaving only Naomi and Zebulon at home.
Before she left, Mrs. Gonzalez specifically instructed Naomi to be a good hostess to Zebulon.
Naomi agreed with a complicated expression on her face.
Once Mrs. Gonzalez was gone, Naomi finally looked at Zebulon. "Can we talk?"
Zebulon's smile remained in place. "I know what you want to say, Naomi. I admit I was inconsiderate of your feelings before. I know this has been hard on you. But you saw them—our parents still want us to get married. Can you give me another chance?"
Naomi pressed her lips together. "What about Tiffany?"
The smile on Zebulon's face stiffened slightly. "Tiffany... I'll take care of it."
For some reason, a chill ran through Naomi.
She had assumed Zebulon must have been deeply infatuated with Tiffany to let her humiliate Naomi like that.
But it turned out Tiffany wasn't the person he cherished most. That meant Zebulon had allowed a nobody to torment her in such a way.
The Zebulon standing before her felt like a complete stranger.
But then she thought about how he had so easily won over her parents. Naomi realized she couldn't escape him, at least not for the time being. No matter what, she had to wait until she graduated from university before she could even bring up the topic with her parents.
"I can't go back to how it was, chasing after you all the time."
Naomi set a boundary with him first. "We can interact normally, but that's it."
