Who’s the Dog Now? novel Chapter 140

But he managed to swallow his anger.

After all, everyone was waiting to see what would happen next, and he couldn't let himself become a laughingstock.

"You missed my birthday yesterday, so you can make it up to me today."

Without waiting for an answer, he grabbed Naomi's hand and dragged her to a party that Carter and the others had set up early that morning.

Naomi disliked such occasions, but she went along with it for the sake of appearances. She stayed long enough for photos and cake, then said she hadn't slept well the night before and left early.

After Naomi left, Zebulon didn't cause any more trouble. Instead, he sat on the sofa and started posting on Facebook.

Carter and the others gathered around, asking curiously, "Did Naomi really go to Lennon's birthday party yesterday?"

At the mention of it, Zebulon's face turned as dark as the bottom of a pot.

"Herbert told me. Would he lie?"

"But Herbert was with us yesterday. How would he know?"

"A servant at the Spencer family residence saw it. And Naomi left in Lennon's car this morning."

Carter let out a sharp hiss. "Wait, is Naomi actually into Lennon now or what?"

"Impossible."

Zebulon's reaction was extreme. "Why would Naomi be interested in Lennon?"

"But Lennon's not bad-looking."

"And the way he and Naomi interacted seemed really natural, like they'd known each other for a long time. The two of them sitting together also looked..."

Carter saw the increasingly dangerous look in Zebulon's eyes and quickly cut himself off.

But even though he hadn't finished, Zebulon knew what he was going to say. He sneered, "Lennon is just an illegitimate son. What right does he have to be with Naomi?"

"Naomi used to chase after me. Everyone knows she's in love with me. If she suddenly turns around and gets with Lennon, what would that do to my reputation?"
