“Then, when he realized you weren’t coming, he had the nerve to ask me where you were. I was speechless. He already had a date, so why was he looking for you? Does he have no shame?”
Naomi already knew Zebulon would never change, but hearing that he had brought Tiffany as his date while lying about picking her up actually made her feel a sense of relief.
She had felt awkward about their strange reconciliation for a while but couldn’t find a reason to say anything.
Now, Zebulon’s actions had solidified her decision.
“Don’t worry about him. I’m fine now. Just head back to the dorm and get some rest after the event is over.”
“Okay, okay. Don’t rush back. Take some time for yourself. Zebulon’s probably waiting for you downstairs. Just let him wait. I’m so done with him. I used to think he just had a bad case of rich-kid syndrome, but now I see he’s just a massive egotist. Does he really think the world revolves around him?”
“You never should have gone back to him in the first place.”
“I know,” Naomi agreed. She listened to Patricia rant about Zebulon for another ten minutes before finally coaxing her to hang up.
She peeled off the face mask and saw that the redness from her smudged makeup had faded. She then removed the ice pack.
The swelling around her eyes had gone down significantly. Although her vision was still a bit blurry, it was much better than before.
She tidied everything up and was about to call Lennon when he returned with a food container.
“All cleaned up?” Lennon’s gaze lingered on her eyes for a moment, and he frowned slightly at the remaining puffiness.
“Do you need to see a doctor?”
Naomi knew he was talking about the swelling and shook her head. “I’ll just put another cold compress on it tonight. It’ll be fine.”
Lennon didn't press the issue. He gestured for her to pull down the glove compartment, which flattened into a small table, and placed the container on it.
Naomi hadn't realized he had gone to get takeout. She glanced at the nearby restaurant and asked curiously, “Why didn’t we just eat there?”
Lennon glanced at her. “Are you sure you want to go into a restaurant looking like that?”
Naomi paused.
She finally understood that Lennon had been thinking of her.
