A flash of pain crossed Lennon's eyes. He walked quickly to her side, his brow furrowing as he saw the large, shiny red bump on her forehead and the numerous cuts that made her look so pitiful. "How did the accident happen?" he asked.

Naomi bit her lip.

The truth about what had happened between her and Zebulon was too difficult to explain. Besides, Zebulon had just protected her; she couldn't just throw all the blame on him. So she explained that Zebulon had asked her out to dinner, they had an argument on the way, and he had gotten distracted, causing the crash.

The doctor treating her wounds sighed. "You young people. Can't you have a conversation without doing it while driving?"

"You were lucky this time, just hitting some bushes. If your boyfriend had reacted a split second later, you would have collided head-on with that truck. I don't need to tell you how dangerous that would have been."

Naomi opened her mouth, wanting to clarify that Zebulon wasn't her boyfriend, but the words wouldn't come out.

Lennon's eyes darkened as he noted her tacit agreement.

"Don't let your wounds get wet for the next few days."

Naomi nodded.

After a few more words with the doctor, Naomi took the prescription to go get her medicine.
