Seeing her eyes and nose turn red from crying, looking like a bullied little rabbit, Lennon pulled a tissue from his pocket and handed it to her.
"It's okay to cry."
After what she had been through, it was remarkable that Naomi had managed to hold it together this long.
His words were all the permission she needed. With a sob, she collapsed into Lennon's arms.
She just didn't understand how things had gotten to this point.
She was the victim. She was the one who had been hurt and wanted to get away, so why wouldn't Zebulon just let her go?
In the instant of the crash, Naomi had been filled with regret.
For a fleeting moment, she had wished she had died in that earthquake all those years ago.
If it weren't for that, she and Zebulon wouldn't still be entangled today.
"Let it out." Lennon gently patted her back. His voice was soft, like a lullaby, and it slowly soothed her turbulent emotions.
The fear in her heart dissipated, and Naomi felt as if she had purged all her negative feelings.
The scent of Lennon's cologne filled her senses, and her face flushed. She quickly pulled away.
"I-I'm okay now."
Naomi didn't dare to look at his expression.
She was afraid he would think she was just taking advantage of him. After all, this wasn't the first or second time something like this had happened.
It had happened so often she was starting to feel embarrassed.
