Who’s the Dog Now? novel Chapter 199

Lennon looked at the uncertain Naomi and didn't offer advice. Instead, he said, "If you need anything, you can tell me."

He knew Naomi wasn't indecisive; she was just tied down by her family, unable to act even if she had the ability.

What he needed to do now wasn't to solve her problems for her, but to let her know that whatever she decided, someone had her back.

Naomi visibly relaxed, letting out a sigh of relief.

She had actually been a little afraid Lennon would tell her to confront her family.

From her perspective, she knew her family was the biggest obstacle. To get away from Zebulon, she'd first have to deal with her parents.

But they were still her parents.

She could never just walk away from them.

If Lennon had actually said that, Naomi would have felt even more conflicted. She knew he would be saying it for her own good, but she also knew she couldn't follow that advice.

She was afraid Lennon would think she was weak.

Lennon's simple words made all of Naomi's anxieties disappear.

A genuine smile spread across her face. She looked at Lennon and asked the question that was foremost on her mind, "Lennon, you seem to really like helping me, don't you?"

When Lennon heard Naomi say the word "like," his heart almost stopped.

Hearing the end of her sentence, he lowered his gaze to hide the disappointment in his eyes.

"It's not that I like helping you."

Lennon explained carefully, "Ron really likes you."

Naomi had considered many possible reasons Lennon might give.

But she had never expected this one.

She even thought he might say, "As a boss, it's my duty to help my employees."

Instead, Lennon took an unconventional route, giving an answer that Naomi knew was a deflection but couldn't argue against.
