Who’s the Dog Now? novel Chapter 33

“Zebulon...” His tone was so harsh that Tiffany’s eyes immediately welled up with tears again.

Zebulon grew even more irritated.

He had only asked one question, hadn't even said anything nasty, and she was already like this. If she reacted this way, then with how he used to treat Naomi, shouldn't she have tried to kill herself ages ago?

Zebulon suddenly lost all interest in having a meal with Tiffany. He grabbed his things and headed for the exit.

Tiffany stared after him, dumbfounded.

“Zebulon—where are you going?”

Without turning back, Zebulon said, “I’ll have someone else take you home. The bill’s on me.”

Tiffany’s shoulders slumped.

She couldn't believe it. Zebulon had actually just left her there.

This was the first time something like this had happened since she’d been with him.

Thinking back, Zebulon had started acting strangely ever since that confrontation with Naomi at the school gate.

Tiffany lowered her eyes, her innocent face twisting with malice.

Naomi, you’re the one who ruined this for me! You brought this all on yourself!

...

By the time Naomi and Patricia got back to campus, they were both exhausted.

It was Naomi’s first time experiencing shopping like that.

She usually shopped with Mrs. Gonzalez or Mrs. Hughes. For families like theirs, shopping didn't require leaving the house; a single phone call would bring the stores to them.
