After a night spent dreaming of Facebook feeds full of gifts he didn’t receive, Zebulon showed up at school the next day with two huge dark circles under his eyes.

“Zebulon, what happened to you?”

Colin looked at him curiously. “Were you up all night gaming? Or on the phone with Tiffany? I’m not saying you have to be so chaste, man. You live off-campus, just have her move in with you.”

Zebulon snapped, “Screw off.” Colin was even more intrigued. “Who pissed you off? Why are you so cranky?”

Zebulon grabbed Colin by the collar. “I said, screw off. Are you deaf?”

Seeing that Zebulon was genuinely angry, the others scrambled to pull them apart.

Colin pouted. “What the hell? Don’t take your bad mood out on me. What did I do? This is so weird. You used to get mad all the time when Naomi was nagging you, but you were never this explosive. Now that she’s gone, you’re even worse. What’s up with—”

Colin’s words died in his throat when he saw the murderous look Zebulon shot him.

He suddenly realized why Zebulon was so irritable, and a sly smile touched his lips.

“I just remembered something about where we should go for the upcoming break. How about this, I’ll organize a lunch today so we can all talk about it?”

Zebulon looked impatient and was about to refuse when Colin added, “I’ll invite Naomi too. We’re all still friends, right? It wouldn’t be right to leave her out. Besides, my parents are on my case about taking care of her after we got her gifts.”

The others caught Colin’s drift and nodded in agreement. “Yeah, let’s invite Naomi.”

The impatience on Zebulon’s face lessened considerably.

“Just send me the location once you’ve booked it. I’ll see if I have time to go.”

Seeing his attempt at being nonchalant, the others couldn't help but snicker.

“Sure thing.”

Naomi received Colin’s message just as her class ended.

She had plans with Patricia to go out for lunch again to try some local specialties.
